It could be anything from information about the clinic to a specific disorder and or disease. A lot of the time the patients will forget what was talked about during their visit especially if there was a ton of information that was gone over. This way they can take this brochure home and read over it and look up any sites that are contained within and get even more information that could not be put into the brochure. Many times a patient in the clinic wants to just get out of there they only half listen to what you are trying to say so when they have questions about it they use the internet as there tool of answers. They then become nervous because the internet told them they were dying so you then get a phone call regarding everything you had already once went over. If you give the patient a brochure they are able to use that as a reference tool. This is something we use a lot in the clinic especially with vaccines and tobacco use.
