Jean Piaget

Piaget’s work spanned much of the 20th century, primarily from the 1920s to the 1980s. He was born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1896. Piaget is classified as a cognitive development theorist. Piagets theory is often described as a stage theory, consisting of four stages of cognitive development: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational. While Piaget focused primarily on childhood development, he acknowledged that cognitive development continues throughout life, but the stages he defined are typically completed by adolescence. Mnemonic to Remember His Theory: Mnemonic: "Silly People Can Fly" S: Sensorimotor (0-2 years) P: Preoperational (2-7 years) C: Concrete Operational (7-11 years) F: Formal Operational (11+ years) Visual Representation: While I can't place pictures directly, you can visualize the four stages like this: Sensorimotor: Baby playing with toys Preoperational: Child using imagination (like pretending a block is a car) Concrete Operational: Kids solving simple math problems with tangible objects Formal Operational: Teen solving abstract problems, like algebra
