For instance, if a society treated the impaired person badly, you can tell that the society is not great with people other than them.

They are very allegorical because like in TKaM you can tell that the society is generally respectful of Boo Radley, but the kids who are immature treat him badly and annoy him.

It's not a mistreatment of the disabled because they are now a big part of the story where if they weren't allegorical then they most likely wouldn't be in the story.
