And then in the 2016 rio olympics Joseph faced Michael Phelps in the 100m butterfly. His time in the 100m butterfly was 50.39. He won gold. This is favorite event because it's cool that he met Michael Phelps as a kid and he idolized him and then he grew up and beat Michael Phelps.

Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D'agostino.
Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D’agostino were racing in the 5,000m until Hamblin stumbled and fell causing D’agostino to do the same. Abbey D’agostino managed to get up and she chose to help Nikki Hamblin, which jeopardized her chances of getting a medal. Once they were both back on their feet, they started racing but Abbey stumbled down again because she twisted her leg very badly. Nikki could have sprinted off, but she decided to stay by Abbey’s side and help her get up. Then they both ran the rest of the race together.
This happened on August 16, 2016 at the Rio Olympics.
This is my favorite moment because it shows that winning isn’t everything. It’s more important to help someone that’s in need then abandoning them for your own good.

In 1996 at the Atlanta olympics Kerri Strug took a huge one for the team. When the US gymnastics team needs the gold medal Strug steps up to the plate. After doing her first vault and hearing cracks in her ankle. Strug, with the gold medal in mind does the her second turn on the vault, injuring her ankle even more. Kerri collapses on the floor rolling in pain while holding her ankle, and as Karolyi carries her off the floor the standings show that US takes the gold. Later she learns she tore multiple ligaments in her ankle and broke it. This event is inspirational to me because in my mind taking one for the team is very important and in this instance Strug takes a huge one for the team helping them win the gold.

He hoped to turn things around in 2005 but he had more injuries and he wasn't able to return until 2007, where he won silver in the world championship. Then in 2008 he won gold in the 100 and 200m. He became the first man to keep both the 100 and 200m Olympic sprint titles. This is inspirational because after he was injured and out for 3 years he came back and was able to do better than he had ever done and he never gave up.

Hubert Van Innis (the most successful archer in Belgium)
when he got got first gold in archery for Belgium in the 1900 Paris olympics.

The reason why this is my favorite moment is because he trained for a long time before he started the olympics and got 2 out of 3 archery events gold and 4 more in the 1920s and he also only got gold and silver. it shows how hard work pays off in the end.

- Gabby Douglas
- Gabby Douglas won gold medals in the individual all-around and team competitions.
- 2012 summer olympics
- London
- This story is my favorite olympic moment because Gabby’s family gave up everything so she could do what she loved. Gabby’s siblings stopped playing their sports so she could do gymnastics. Gabby’s mom even sold her ring so the money could go towards the gymnastics. Despite falling and hurting her hamstring abby still practiced for the olympics. She knew that her family gave everything up for her so she had to make the 2012 olympic team.

As my favorite olympic moment I chose actually did not occur during the olympics but during an olympian's life none the less . I chose to do Teofilo Stevenson Vs Ali , the greatest fight that never was . The offer to fight Muhammad Ali came just after Stevenson had won his second olympic gold medal in Montreal , but he turned it down , along with millions of dollars and the possibility to have taken over Ali's title of being “ the best “ . Saying “ What is one million dollars compared to the love of 8 million Cubans ?”	This is my favorite Olympic related event because it showed that to Teofile the affection of his country meant more to him then a title or money .

In 1946, at the London games, Alice Coachman was the first African American Woman to join the U.S track and field team. She not only set the olympic record for the high jump, she was the first african american of all olympic history to win gold. When she was younger she was often denied the chance to participate in sports events. Coachman didn't take no for an answer and started to train by herself. She would run barefoot in the fields by her home, and use old and broken equipment to improve her high jump. Her parents thought she was wasting her time and only until a coach recognized her for what she was worth, that they gave their blessing. She didn't let other people influence her fate or destiny. Instead she went off and proved them wrong, and took home the gold medal.
