Author: R.J. Palacio
11/10/16
This book is good for 4th grade to high school. This story is about a boy names August who has a deformed face. He struggles with fitting in and people treating him like he is normal. He is faced with going to school for the first time and he struggles making friends. This book is a fantastic read and a great book to start conversations about what it is like being a person that looks different on the outside than everyone else but is the same on the inside. I could use this book to teach students about character analysis and point of view.

The book goes into each student and what they were going through at the time of before, during and after the attack.I could use this story to teach my students about the struggles we have been faced with after the attack on 9/11. I can also use it to teach about character traits and view point.I can also use this to teach about how books flash forward in time and pause to bring the whole story together.

Author: S.A. Bodeen
9/26/16
This is a realistic fiction book that is good for middle school or high schoolers. This is a story about a girl named Robbie that is on a flight to Midway Atoll. The plane ends up crashing into the ocean where she has to fight for her life against sharks. Luckily she is pulled on to a raft with the co-pilot. This is a realistic fiction novel that would be best for 7th, 8th and up. I could use this book to teach theme analysis, and character analysis.

Author: A. Destiny and Cathrine Hapka
Level: 9th-12th
This is a book about a girl who forever wanted a dog of her own but was not able to because her sister was allergic. She was finally able to get a puppy of her own when her sister went off to college. Everything was going great until the puppy started chewing everything up and barked all the time. She had to take the puppy to training classes, which is where she meets the trainer and begins to spark interest in him. She also meets a guy named Jamal whose puppy attends the same classes. This is a great story about teen life and relationships. I could use this book to talk about character traits and self to text experiences.

Upon arriving to the new area the local kids begin telling them about scary ghost stories about the house they moved into. Daniel the boy does not want to believe any of the stories. I could use this book to teach my students about a time when they have ever been in a situation they were afraid of and they had to become brave.

Author: Francine Pascal's
Level: 6th-12th
This is one of my favorite books I read around the time I was in middle school. This is a story about twins who are rezoned to a new school. Elizabeth makes friends quickly and becomes apart of a large group of popular friends. Jessica does not make friends as quickly as her sister. She befriends Lacey who is popular be she is not nice to Jessica. I could use this story to talk about different experiences everyone has even twins. I could also discuss the text-to-self experiences the students may have had going from elementary school to middle school and then transitioning to high school and how we should all be kind because it isn't always easy for everyone.

Everyone takes medicine to suppress their emotions. The boy is given the task to preserve all of the memories from the past, which is when he realizes the people are being controlled. Jonas is faced with many challenges but finally escapes the community. I could use this book to teach symbolism, and character traits.

The main character Katniss grew up faster than she should have because of her father passing and her mother going into a deep depression. Katniss took care of her sister like she was her mother. The time came for their district to have a tribute chosen for the Hunger games when Prim, Katniss' sister is chosen to play. Katniss fears for her sister and volunteers to go in her place. Katniss plays in the games and wins. I could use this book to teach inferences, vocabulary and dystopian fiction.
