Fifth avatar of Vishnu

His three steps symbolize the three states of being:
Jagrah (awake), Swapna (dream sleep), and Sushupti (deep sleep) and the final step is the elevation above these states to Moksha.

His three steps also symbolize the netherworld, earth, and the heavens. He is also shown with his foot on Bali's head or with his feet raised above his knee, his navel, and his head.

The First Avatar of Vishnu
In this form Vishnu saved the world from a flood. Manu, the first man, caught a fish that grew really big. When the flood came closer, Manu saved himself by tying his boat to the horn on the fish’s head. Later sources identified the fish as Vishnu.

Matsya may be portrayed either in animal form or a combination of a human and animal, with the human being the upper half and the fish being the lower half of the body. Matsya is usually shown with four arms—one holding a conch shell, another one holding the discus (chakra), one in the pose of conferring a boon (varada mudra), and one in the protection-affording pose (abhaya mudra). According to the canons of sculpture, the man-half should always be shown as wearing all the accessories usually linked with Vishnu.

Buddha (Wise Man)

Buddha was a monk, mendicant, sage, philosopher and teacher. His philosophies and teachings served as the foundation for the religion of Buddhism. He was born into the Shakya clan either in 563 BCE or 480 BCE. He died either in 483 BCE or 400 BCE. There exist no written records from within his lifetime or 2 centuries after. Buddha is described as being immortal. He is perhaps best known for numerous miracles, omens, and supernatural events. At age 29, after being sheltered by his father, he discovered that people were sick and dying. This depressed him, inspiring his goal of overcoming age, sickness, and death, by living the life of an ascetic. He realized that meditation was the right path to awakening. He vowed to sit under a pypal tree, known as the Bodhi tree, he would never stand up until he discovered the truth. After 49 days of meditation at the age of 35, he finally became enlightened (breaking out of the cycle of life and death, Nirvana). He became known as the Buddha, or the awakened one.
