While stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, US Army Lt. Col. Alex Gallegos (Ret.) of Idaho held responsibilities from 2014 to 2016 as commander of the Special Troops Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division, the most-deployed and complex battalion in the division. Ensuring that 600 Fort Campbell soldiers had proper training and readiness, Alex Gallegos oversaw aspects of operations such as discipline and morale.

Subsequently based at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, Col. Gallegos (Idaho) served as deputy chief, Officer Division, Directorate of Military Personnel Management in the Office of the Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1. There, he guided a trio of branches that oversaw the full range of officer policies spanning the Army, the Army Reserve, and the National Guard. He had a vital role in the development of a diversity of policy initiatives, including talent management and officer corps transformation.

Col. Gallegos’ experience in the military extends back to the late 1980s at Fort Bragg. Later, he served in the Office of the Inspector General during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, providing assistance in command oversight for more than 21,000 active soldiers and reservists deployed in the Middle East.
