During this book I am wondering if Jacob(present) is just there to hold the story together or if his story has a reason for being there and the author could have just written the book in the years of his circus days and not in an elderly home

Whilst reading this book I made a text to self connection. Throughout the book I thought about when I saw a circus a long time ago and it changed my view of the Circus by telling me about thing that go on behind the bright lights of the circus tent, such as red lighting, Being thrown off a moving train as punishment of to avoid paying wages.

When the circus bought Rosie (an elephant) and the circus thought they blew all their money on a mentally handicapped elephant I thought she just did nothing because she didn't like August for beating her with a bull hook for nothing, especially when she did intelligent things like steal a mans hat, put it on her headnd put it back on his head

The part I visualized the most was when August, Jacob, and Merlena go to the club and they get caught up in a riot in the streets. I could imagine the people running around, outraged, and August getting separated from Jacob and Marlena. I envision a very fancy restaurant with a dance floor and booths as people run, bottleneck, through a pair of gold and white double doors and Jacob and Marlena are violently shoved away from August.

This book is a bout a veterinary student at an ivy leauge

school who gets news about his parents being in a fatal

car accident. As a result he abandons his studies just before

his final exams. After abandoning his studies and walking on a

railroad until he comes upon a colorful circus train and jumps inside

finding Camel, an old working man and Kinko the clown

(or Walter off stage) who become his friends. After speaking with the owner

of the circus he is appointed veterinary of The Binzini Brothers Most

Spectacular Show on Earth. After a series of events such as the purchase of an elephant named Rosie

who only responds to polish. Jacob falls in love with the stockmaster, Augusts,

wife, Marlena . Jacob finds out August abuses Marlena. Jacob ends up saving Marlena

who runs away to Ringling circus with Marlena and get married.

Marlena is a very compassionate person in the book and I

always envisioned her as very young.

I know she is compassionatebecause she cares for

her horses and other animals, like Jacob. She also

ran rebelliously away from home at a very young

age and found the circus. So she does have a rebel

side hidden beneath the cute innocent exterior

Jacob is an ivy league educated veterinarian whose parents meet their doom in a car crash, so he abandons his studies and joins the circus and befriends Kinko the clown and a working man, Camel. He is in love with Marlena, Augusts wife.

but he can be a very merciless and

Though Rosie is an elephant the

author did an amazing job of

developing the character of this

pachyderm. She also has a very

improtant role in the story
