Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework designed to enhance teaching and learning for all individuals by incorporating multiple ways to engage students, present information, and demonstrate understanding.

In my classroom, I prioritize setting clear goals by displaying I Can statements, standards, and the daily agenda on the board—something I have consistently done for over 30 years to ensure students understand their learning objectives. To provide multiple means of engagement, I offer various ways for students to interact with content, such as recording videos in Google Classroom, submitting written documents, or creating visuals to express their thoughts. Accessibility of materials is also a key focus; I strive to make all necessary resources available in my classroom. However, acquiring updated technology remains a challenge. Years ago, I secured a grant for student computers, but they are now outdated, making advocacy for new resources an ongoing effort.

Creating a flexible learning environment is another priority. My classroom features a variety of seating arrangements, from single-seat tables to larger tables accommodating up to eight students, allowing for dynamic group work and small-group instruction. I also emphasize self-reflection and growth by providing students with a calendar at the start of each unit. At the end of each lesson, they use a dash, check, or star system to assess their understanding, helping them track their progress. Additionally, I integrate technology daily, as every student has access to a Chromebook. By incorporating gamification and Learning Management Systems (LMS), I enhance engagement and create an interactive learning experience tailored to diverse student needs.
