This is seen through the fact that soldiers cant leave and spend time with family. War has no boundaries, and that’s the message that the author wants to send with these themes; even on holiday with such importance as it is Christmas, soldiers still have to be in the line of duty. This is seen through pannels three, six, eleven, and twelve. Where we could see snappy which represents a soldier, having to still fight and continue with his duty even on holidays such as Christmas. Furthermore, as war has no limits, snoopy could be seen angry in panel twelve where shouts into the sky, to maybe relive his anger about war.

Soldiers sacrifice family time and certain holidays. This is seen when snoopy says, “Well, never get home by Christmas! This stupid war will go on forever”. Furthermore, when this theme is implemented in the comic strips, we see how soldiers lose everything they love and how this makes them angry. A clear demonstration is with the use of onomatopoeia, where it is shown that snoopy shouts with anger; this is due to the sacrifice he has to make by going into war and how this sacrifice makes him feel lonely.
This is seen through panel three and panel six. Where snoopy says first that he is happy as he thinks that he would be home by Christmas time, but as seen in panel six, where he realizes that he won’t actually be home by Christmas due to the sacrifice he and his colleagues have made by going into war.

We can see how Charlie Brown in the last panel felt sad and lonely for the others being so far from home at Christmas time.   • In panel 4 we can evidence that there’s just the silhouette of Snoopy without the usual detail.

  • The gutter throughout all the panels of the comics is the same size.
  • The comic uses thought bubbles, except for the last panel which is the only one to use speech bubbles.

  • Panel 1-8 Snoopy is in his plane: Firstly, we can conclude that Snoopy is just on top of a dogs house, but if we begin analyzing detail by detail we can discover that by the use of words such as “Red Baron”, “Barbed Wire”, and the costume that Snoopy is using is of an aviator.
  • Panel 9-10 Behind the trenches: We know that the setting is behind the trenches because on panel number 8 Snoopy thinks: “I’ve got to make a forced landing behind the trenches” and then on panel 9 appears Snoopy crawling across the grass to avoid being discovered.
  • Panel 11 Running to the Barbed wire: The drawing shows that he is running as fast as he can.
  • Panel 12 He is going through the Barbed wire: The rope represents the barbed wire.

In panel 5, the reader feels that the situation needs to be really hard for a pilot to feel he wants to write a letter to the president.  In panel 6, when Snoopy realizes the Red Baron is behind him, intensified with the size and thickness of the font, the reader fears and feels concern for Snoopy’s life.   • Allusion:  A direct allusion to president Woodrow Wilson is made in panel 5.  This adds a feeling of realism to all feelings and situations presented. 
  • Personification: Snoopy is an anthropomorphic beagle, this means that actually dogs aren’t able to pilot.
