After the war, he married Martha Dandridge Custis and lived with her and her two children. George Washington never had any children with Martha. When Lawrence died, George took over the estate Lawrence had owned and moved there with Martha and his stepchildren. He then became a delegate and him and other colonists got angry with the British for the unfair treatment they were given. The British refused so they when to war. But being the leader of the army was hard. George was leading a ragtag army of colonial farmers against an army of trained British soldiers. George won and lost battles. Some of the battles were the Crossing of the Delaware River and the Battle of Yorktown. Later, George Washington became the first president of the United States and was president for 8 years or 2 terms. After that, George Washington resigned from the Presidential  office.
