Probably one of the most popular lifesaving techniques, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is used to save those whose hearts have stopped beating. It's recommended that everyone should at least try chest compressions. Like it says in the textbook, "Remember, the difference between doing something and doing nothing could be someone's life." The main thing to do before performing CPR is checking the persons state of consciousness. Are they conscious or unconscious? If they are unconscious alert higher authorities. If they are conscious CPR is the recommended course of action. As long as one follows the 3 basic steps of Compression, Airways, and Breathing
, the situation should be under control. Luckily I've never found my self in a situation that's required CPR. However, after reading the chapter, I now know how to handle these situations if saving a life is on the line.

When the injury isn't as severe as a stoped heart, the use of a first aid kit should be considered. Things such as blisters, cuts, scraps, and scratches can all be treated with a first aid kit. As suggested in the textbook, "It is important to have a first aid kit available. It is recommended to keep one at home and in your car. It should include a first-aid guide" (iBook) In my house, we do have a first aid kit and my mom has taught my siblings and I how to use it. There have been times where we've had to use it to stop bleeding.
