Food Bank

1. Shares donated food within the communities to feed poverty-stricken people and families.

2. Scenario: A student goes up to the teacher and asks if they can bring home some snacks to their family for dinner. The teacher finds out that the student’s family struggles to buy food outside of the food that their children get from school.

Red Cross

1. Gives people/families grocery vouchers, public transport cards, dignity kits for women and nappies for children, cash grants to help people pay for rent, school books or medicines, and provide safe places people can go to get a hot meal or a shower.

2. Scenario: A student comes into class with tears running down their face. Being concerned, the teacher goes over to the student to ask what is making them so upset. The student then says that they will be kicked out of their apartment by the end of the month if they can’t pay rent.

Clothing Bank

1. Shares donated clothing within the communities to help clothe to keep people warm and dressed.

2. Scenario: A student is constantly coming to school with no jacket and tries to go to recess without one in the middle of November. The teacher tells the student to bring a jacket next time for the freezing temperature. Later the student tells the teacher privately that their family can’t afford it.

Boys and Girls Club

1. Provides academic help and motivation within the young poverty-stricken community. This is to motivate these kids to grow to their full potential despite the stigma of poverty.

2. Scenario: A student is struggling with their grades and looks uninterested in class. The teacher asks the students for a one-on-one to discuss their academic progress. The student then relays to the teacher that they feel they can’t achieve anything because of their background (Poverty, immigration, race, etc.).

Salvation Army

1. Donates gifts to struggling families so they can provide a Christmas to all kids around the nation.

2. Scenario: A student looks bummed out at the annual Christmas party right before winter break. As the other students are eating their sweets and drinking their hot cocoa, the teacher asks the students why they aren’t having fun. The student then tells the teacher that their parent said they could not have Christmas this year because of their bills.
