Prospero portrays the emotion of forgiveness in his speech.
By forgiving those who plotted against him (mainly Antonio during the speech,) he shows maturity. "You, brother mine, that entertained ambition, Expelled remorse and nature would here have killed your king, I do forgive thee, unnatural though thou art" (lines 75-79). Although he does not approve of his brother's actions and calls them them unnatural, Antonio is his family.
Prospero also aims to earn the fairies' forgiveness by absolving to never use magic again. "This rough magic I here abjure" (line 50). He will not enslave any more of them because he knows it is best for them to be free.

Although he is disappointed in their actions, Prospero takes the opportunity to forgive his attackers. Similarly, Prospero recognizes his own mistake in enslaving Ariel and asks for the spirit's forgiveness.

Shakespeare conveys through this play that forgiveness is an important lesson to learn in life. There are many instances where Prospero recognized the importance of forgiving others. In lines 131-132, Prospero forgives his attackers, saying, "I do forgive thy rankest fault--all of them." Prospero has realized the importance of his family (Antonio) and wants to make ammends. Thus, he forgives his brother, showing that no animosity remains between them.

Why Does Prospero Forgive?

Throughout the play, Prospero has been plotting against Antonio and manipulating the group. However, Prospero chooses to forgive Antonio is the final moments of the play. Prospero forgives everyone because he knows being angry has solved nothing so far. \He has realized that Antonio is his family, and that family comes before any petty rivalry. In the end, it is not worth it for Prospero to harm his brother for his own satisfaction. The vengeance is not worth his brother's life. Although he demands the throne back from his brother, Prospero forgets Antonio's past actions because there is still a brotherly love deep in his heart. He knows his brother's actions were not reflective of his true self: he was fueled by selfishness and greed. The anger Prospero once felt toward his brother created a toxic relationship between the two. He no longer wants this to continue, though, so he takes the first step in rebuilding their once-friendly relationship.
