In this YouTube clip, women speak about the male-dominated film industry. This affects women seeking jobs in this industry. I thought of this video while I read the reading assigned in this module "The rhetoric and reality of "opting out". In this reading, the author speaks about a woman named Regina and how her resources and motivation for her career were affected after having her first child. Many women are not able to pursue their dream careers because of a lack of resources or the resources not being enough to help mothers succeed. These resources being childcare costs are too high or almost their whole salary, long hours at work, and anti-family friendly schedules and support. In this clip, they speak about how women are perceived to be better producers than directors. This is because directors have to be on set for longer than 12 hours at a time. This makes it an inconvenient schedule for many women who are mothers. Instead of fixing this, they choose to continue to be a male-dominated industry with preference.

This YouTube clip is from a scene in an episode of the Television series " Shameless". During this week's module, we learned about gentrification in the documentary produced by PBS " City Rising". We examine gentrification and the importance of homeownership and the differences between generations and values. In the Bay Area currently, we are living through a housing crisis like gentrification and highly increased costs of living. The median rent for an average 1 bedroom apartment in the South Bay ranges starting from $2,600 and higher. Most apartments ask to make 3x of the rent. This would mean you would have to make $7,800 a month to afford to live on your own here. What helped me understand the process of gentrification and what that means for our community was this clip from this episode. I believe it does an entertaining way of informing others what this can mean and the reality of the situation.

In this YouTube clip, they discuss the recent backlash against TikTok influencers who attended a brand trip to Shein's new warehouse. Shein is renowned as one of the most popular fast-fashion companies, offering affordable prices and fast shipping. Their trendy clothing primarily targets young women aged 18-24 and has gained significant traction on social media platforms like TikTok, where influencers showcase their Shein hauls, influencing others to purchase trendy and affordable clothing.

However, when some influencers recently made videos showing the" actual "working conditions of Shein's employees, it exposed allegations of unsafe workplace conditions and potential child labor. Despite these claims, the influencers, who were paid for their sponsored posts, dismissed the concerns and asserted that there were misconceptions about the workers' conditions. Witnessing this was disheartening, as it displayed a lack of respect for the workers' well-being and ignored the catastrophic environmental damage caused by the fast fashion industry.

This clip effectively highlights the adverse impact of the fast fashion industry on society today, particularly through Shein's practice of producing over a thousand design styles every day. It emphasizes the pressing need for action and awareness regarding these issues, as they continue to affect workers and the environment.

Regenerate response

This YouTube clip, I came across, relates to the readings covered in the module. It effectively breaks down the concept of housing segregation and redlining, which were discussed in the module's assigned reading, "Life and Death in the City." I initially struggled to grasp the historical context of St. Louis and the Delmar Divide while reading the material, but this video significantly enhanced my understanding of the module.

The clip provided insightful examples regarding the history of the Homeowners Loan Corporation and explained the origin of residential security maps, among other relevant topics. By combining the information presented in the video with the module's readings, I now have a better grasp of the far-reaching effects of redlining and residential segregation. It is worth noting that this topic is not widely discussed, and there are only a few videos available on social media platforms that delve into it.

Before engaging with this module, I had not fully comprehended the extent to which residential segregation has impacted various regions in the United States. The module's content, coupled with this informative video, has expanded my knowledge and shed light on an important yet often overlooked subject.
