The geography of the Intermountain Region back in the 1800’s had some forests and a lot of mountains and plains where American Indians had lived. But unfortunately in 1890 Utah business men got rich by performing “lumber operations” which destroyed some of these forests which still shows today in the Intermountain. Another thing that has changed is what countries are in the Intermountain Region. Its land in the 1900’s had lost a portion of Arizona and gained some of Eastern California.

Overall, the climate in the Intermountain region was pretty much very similar back then and now. The temperatures would vary depending on which part of the Intermountain region was location and elevated. Sometimes winters were cool and wet or at other times, they can be hot and dry, still depending on where the region is located and if it's elevated or not. In the southern part of the region, winters were short and warm, with almost no rain or snow, and the summers were hot and dry. In the northern part of the region, there were wet, snowy winters and extremely boiling, hot summers, but for the majority, the Intermountain region was always dry, resulting to lots of droughts (see graph). To recap, the climate and temperature in the Intermountain region was mostly dry from back then in the 1800s - 1900s was similar to the region now.

Some of the traditions that we all do in Canada and America re things like; 4th of July, Canada Day, and Christmas. But to certain states in America that are apart of the IMR, like New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada, the traditions are a little different. Like per say in New Mexico they have the Day Of The Dead, and in Utah certain people there have the tradition of leaving rocks with love messages on them in the desert.

It started when the first thunder (to them) in spring happened.

In the 1800's, the intermountain region was going through different changes throughout their area. In Alaska, the Russians had major control of the area until the Americans bought it in 1867 to show their power in the north. This changed caused some miners to venture into Alaska and some of them found gold, causing the Klondike gold rush to send thousands of miners into Alaska in hopes of striking it rich. In interior BC, fur traders had started to make it to BC. One of these groups (The HBC) had started to set up forts, one of these being Fort George (Later Prince George). In western America, there were many settlers and first nations groups until America had bought it from Spain and England. This change caused first nations' hunting to fall apart and later lead to their eventual move to reserves.

The area is home to many farms which support their countries associated with them. Also, these areas are very diverse. They are home to Europeans, first nations and others who all call the intermountain region home. One of the most populated areas (California) is home to 39 Million people.
