Henderson (2018) has argued that, in supervision research, participants’ responses are

often taken “as a transparent lens to the truth of supervision pedagogy” (p. 407). In relation

to seeking greater accuracy in research, the decision to record supervision meetings can be

perceived as having the aim of capturing not just voices about supervision, but voices in

supervision;

Conducting audio/visual recordings of supervision meetings can be

controversial for two reasons:

(1) the presence of the recorder may be distracting in supervision sessions which

involve delicate unconscious processes of both supervisory parties (Grant, 2003);

and

(2) an obtrusive-seeming recorder can compromise the neutrality and privacy of

supervision meetings.
