I chose this book because i am very interested in russia’s history.

The main characters are Nicholas II who was a selfish ruler of Russia but he had good intentions.

Alexandra who was Nicholas’s wife and she supported Rasputin.

Rasputin who was manipulative and very bad.

Alexandra could not have a son which angered the people of Russia and worried the ruler’s because they needed an heir.

Nicholas declared war which killed many people and thousands of Russians had to go fight.

The Romanov family was executed after the government was overthrown.

1903 in Russia in winter is when this story took place. It goes over a long period of time.

The time period made it so there was no social media and recent inventions so it was harder for them.

Most of the action happened when the Romanov’s were.

The place impacted the people by where the war is and how the people lived

I think the author wrote this book to spread awareness about what happened to the Russians during the 1900s. It tells how the government was overthrown and why it happened in the first place. It also tells about how rich and poor people were treated differently. I think the author’s life impacted this book by being a historical writer so that’s why she chose this book.
