I would also 'remove' the teachers desk and replace it with a corner for their things and have the teacher sit with the students during class to remove the hierarchy in the classroom.
Some technology I would include in the classroom are smart boards so students are able interact with the information presented to them by the teachers. Individual laptops or tablets can also help students collaborate and find information they are interested in. Audio and video recorders can also allow students to film/ record the discussions they have in class to further reflect on it. Some websites/programs I would use are:
Prezi: Prezi is a website that allows for teamwork and creative presentations. It's more interactive and engaging than regular slide presentations and a favorite of mine during middle and highschool.

Kialo: Kialo is a discussion platform that promotes participation through debates. Teachers can choose a topic based on the lesson and have students add their own claims and evidence regarding the topic.

Zoom: The most popular video calling platform currently, with a feature that is ideal for a student-centered learning environment: break out rooms. Students are able to work in small group with teachers stopping in and checking on them. Of course there are other websites that allow for this as well, but in my experience Zoom is the most user friendly one.

The most popular, and most recommended collaboration projects though are the following:

Project-based Learning:
In project-based learning, students are presented with a question or problem which they are expected to research and learn about in small groups, they then present their research and solutions to the class in whatever way they desire. With project-based learning, teachers help provide guidance and direction when students ask for it instead of directly giving information that they expect the students to use.

Socratic Circle:
A form of discussion with an outer and inner circle of students. The students in the inner circle present information, opinions, and questions about the topic that has been given, while the students in the outer circle listen and observe the ideas that are given. After the discussion is over, the students in the inner and outer circles switch and repeat the process.

Jigsaw:
Students are split into small groups, each member of the group are put in charge of different sections of the larger topic. They then research, learn, and master their section of the topic and consolidate with members of other groups that are masters of the same section as them. Afterwards they return to their own groups to share the information they have learned.

Students can be prompted by questions about the students own insights or thought processes as well as questions regarding the course content and what happened in a particular class, when recording their entries. These logs are then submitted for feedback to the instructor. Online as well as paper-based online journals/logs can be used.

By regularly writing in journals, the student will be more comfortable with writing and have written feedback from the teacher and although it's not specifically targeting reading, this would be an approach to have the student get more comfortable with reading via their own writing.

There are 4 stations set up in the room. The class is divided into 4 groups based on ability level. On Monday-Thursday each group completes one station a day, on Friday students have free choice.

The rationale is that students learn most effectively when they are actively engaged in activities.

Examples of kinesthetic learning activities include:

-Field trips for academic purposes
-Creating projects

By putting skills into practice through activities such as the above, kinesthetic learners are able to engage in their learning and thus feel the results right away. It also engages more creative thinking as well as critical and analytical thinking on the part of the students as they are responsible for approaching the material from several angles.

If the students are learning about dinosaurs, a trip to a museum where dinosaur bones are will be quite memorable and engaging as well as creating cutouts and physical crafts of their favorite dinosaurs. -Epic Books: Has thousands of eBooks available. They can also be read by an audio narrator.
-Starfall Learn to Read: has a curriculum starting with the alphabet and then continuing with vowels and comprehension in a fun manner
-Homer: for children aged 2-8 and helps children build on reading skills they already have by having them tap into topics that interest them.
-Bob Books Reading Magic: helps children learn to read with phonics-based books and games
-Hooked on Phonics: An app based on the 'Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read' program. The app offers a library of books rated by difficulty and also has lessons for beginning readers who are learning to read.
