He was elected to a four-year board term in 2015. David Witkin and the other board members manage the district’s budget, working to ensure that money is spent in a way that maximizes educational outcomes for students. Witkin’s major contributions to the district include the role he played in passing Measure K, a ballot measure that approved the redevelopment of a 3.37-acre surplus school property. Redevelopment plans included rezoning the property and leasing it to Fountain Square Development for the construction of an assisted living facility. The project is expected to generate more than $600,000 per year for RBUSD. A former college baseball player, David Witkin coaches Little League in his spare time.
