Crier's War by Nina Varela

Crier’s War by Nina Varela is one of my favorite novels ever. It tells the story of the Automae Princess, Crier, and her handmaid, Ayla. The humans are no longer in control, and have been taken over by the creatures that they built to be their servants. Ayla becomes Criers handmaid with the intent of killing her and starting a revolution, but ends up falling in love with her. To stop the cruelty that runs deep within the land, they will have to start a war. It is full of twists and turns that grab you in, and keep you invested. Although some of them aren’t, the characters feel wholly human and make you sympathize with their actions and emotions.

I strongly recommend reading the color purple. It has such a deeper meaning behind it that just makes you want to keep reading, to figure out what happens next. Those are the best books. It is narrated from the perspective of a suppressed young woman, Cecile. She faces many hardships throughout the book. She goes into the topics of race, gender inequalities, domestic abuse, education of women, sexuality, the white standards of beauty, god/religion and so much more. The author is the voice of the culture. It is a very sad novel and goes into some touchy subjects with a lot of detail for some people but it has a very happy and empowering ending for people like Cecile. Overall, I really recommend this book. I personally don’t enjoy reading and get distracted easily but I can say this book has hooked me in and it was a very incredible book.

I know what you're thinking. "Shakespeare? Isn't that that pretentious 500 year-old British dude who no one has ever read by choice?" Yes, you are correct. No one has ever read Shakespeare by choice, myself included. However, I regret to inform you that some of his writing is actually like, really good.
"Hamlet" follows the titular Prince Hamlet as he uncovers the corruption behind his own royal family and seeks revenge for his late father. It's got plots, murder, and soliloquies. LOTS of soliloquies. Admittedly, there's a lot of filler, but once the plot gets moving, "Hamlet" could pass for an episode of Game of Thrones. If you want some classic family drama with a little more than the average amount of death, "Hamlet" is the play for you.

She's spent the past decade keeping her head down and enduring almost daily torture with what little hope she has left to survive. However, when she is forced to remove her last chance of hope, Theo is ready to seek revenge and fight for her kingdom. A fantasy novel with LGBTQ+ representation within the side characters and the first in a trilogy, Laura Sebastian takes a spin on the damsel in distress trope and has created a cast of captivating characters.

The Round House by Louise Erdrich is a book I now recommend to everyone. It is the story of an Ojibwe teen living on a reservation with his family. Then one day his entire life turns upside down when his mother get assaulted. The boy seeks justice and revenge for his mother while trying to be a normal teenager. This book talks about MMIW, (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women), which unfortunately is very common for the people living on reservations today. The book is shows the reality of life for indigenous people and adds to the purpose of the book.

After the events of the first book, two young teenagers: Connor and Lisa find themselves taking full control over the "Graveyard," a place where AWOL (or runaway unwinds) stay until their seventeen. Meanwhile, another young teen named Lev finds himself in a place filled with escaped tithes (or children who were born to be unwound at thirteen) where he is treated like a role-model towards them, only to be dragged on yet another adventure by a girl who didn't approve of his previous actions. Meanwhile, a Frankenstein-like human being is being made in the background with parts of Unwinds. People begin questioning the concept of Unwind, and debates spark across this dystopian version of the U.S, where badly-behaved children are unwound, or in other words removing all the organs of that person and giving them to others who need it.

It talks about the stories of women who made extreme advances in exercise inequality. Each has their own unique, individual experience, and they all made different advances. This book talks about how exercise evolved from a "beauty tool" meant to "reduce" women's bodies to a self care practice that is meant to be used to feel good. This book is inspiring, and encourages the reader to to be comfortable in their own skin especially when in an exercise environment.

The five people you meet in heaven is a fiction book that gives the reader on what heaven can look like. Eddie, the main character, had a beautiful life with beautiful people, but during his last years, he was lonely. When he passed, he met 5 people in heaven, one by one. Each person defined as an importance within his life. Some of the people were ones who he didn't think they would have an importance in his life, but when the message was given from that person, he realized that those 5 people are more then just important. I am not a reader, and I do not like reading books, but this book was one that I wanted to keep reading. I enjoyed it very much because I have always wondered what heaven can be, and what it looks like, and this gave me a beautiful vision. Anything by the author Mitch Album is very good, like Tuesdays with Morrie as well. I recommend this book because I dislike reading, and I loved this book. I could summarize it for hours.

I Should Die Before I Wake is an amazing story with two main characters who are similar in different ways. the plot takes place in two different times: 1941 and the other time is present. I personally loved this book because of the intense plot and the history behind the holocaust, not only that, the characters in this book are very interesting and intriguing.

Unwind was one of the only books I really liked because it keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The book is about how there was abortion laws so instead of that the government would make parents sign a waiver that would mean their kids would be unwound at the age of 16. The main character finds out that he is an unwind and he runs away and meets other unwinds in the process. There is also a thing called storking where parents leave the baby on the front porch and if someone got caught with the baby they would have to keep it. The unwinds go on an incredible journey and they end up in a lost unwind camp that keeps unwinds safe from being unwound until they are 18 because they can't be unwound as adults. When being unwound there are doctors that take apart your body parts and use it for other people who have missing limbs. Sometimes the limbs have minds of their own. An unwind camp is made to be like paradise to make unwinds think that being there is a good thing. While being unwound you are awake throughout the whole thing but your whole body is numb so you can't feel a thing.

This book is about two people who find each other on their last day to live. In this story, it is normal to get a call letting you know you will die in the next 24 hours. The two main characters try to live out the rest of their lives in these 24 hours. I wasn't bored especially towards the end and it kept me interested. I would recommend this book.
___
This dystopian book was an intense, detailed, sad, love story about two boys; Mateo and Rufus. These lovers got a call from DeathCast telling them they had 24 Hours to live, they find an app on their phone and end up matching up. They proceed to meet up and spend their last day doing things they love and things they've never done before. The two lovers cope with each other and end up falling in love, only to say goodbye to the love they just started.
