Garlic exerts powerful anti-inflammatory activity, and inflammation is known to play a role in the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in coronary artery disease. Research demonstrates garlic also exhibits anti-thrombotic effects as well as the inhibition of platelet aggregation Garlic has also been proven to have anti-atherosclerotic abilities based on both animal and human studies. Evidence shows that garlic considerably decreases accumulation of cholesterol in aortic tissue, as well as fatty streak and atherosclerotic plaque formation, and is known to perform better than a placebo in lowering of the total cholesterol levels (Braun & Cohen, 2010).

CoQ 10 is an enzyme cofactor produced in humans, with natural sources in foods such as meat, fish, veggies, and nuts. A powerful antioxidant, CoQ10 has demonstrated through studies to reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressures and lower overall cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol. Also, CHF patients who take CoQ10 have reported an improvement in symptoms and overall quality of life, as well as a decrease in total hospitalizations (Braun & Cohen, 2010)

Cinnamon was a precious commodity in ancient times, used for flavoring, embalming, and medicinal purposes. Cinnamon has been proven to significantly reduce blood glucose levels when administered over a two week period, as well as potentiate insulin activity and increase glucose metabolism by twenty fold. These powerful effects make cinnamon useful in the treatment of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. One study performed on patients with diabetes type two proved the potency of cinnamon, reducing fasting serum glucose by 18-29 percent. In another study, a water soluble extract of cinnamon administered to patients significantly reduced fasting blood glucose and systolic blood pressure, while increasing lean muscle mass (Braun & Cohen, 2010).

A deficiency in magnesium has been linked to worsen blood sugars with those who are type II Diabetics.

Fish oil is an essential human fatty acid and are found naturally in the food source of fish and seafood, particularly salmon, halibut, mackerel, and herring. Fish oil exerts a large influence on factors that contribute to cardiovascular health. In numerous animal studies, Fish oil has been shown to cardiac arrhythmia's that are associated with sudden death. Also, fish oil has been proven to effectively reduce triglyceride and lipid levels in humans, as well as up to a 5 mmHg reduction in systolic blood pressure. There is evidence that shows fish oil may even reduce and reverse the atherosclerotic process by inhibiting smooth muscle cell proliferation ( Braun & Cohen, 2010)
