Greta Thunberg is a 17-year old girl, who was born in Stockholm with the Asperger's syndrome. One day, when she was 16, she started striking school and protesting by sitting in front of the Swedish government alone and holding up a sign on which it said "SCHOOL STRIKE FOR THE CLIMATE" in Swedish. Her intention: Greta wanted the Swedish government to meet the goals of the "Paris Agreement" .At some point people started joining her and the strike ended up becoming the biggest climate protest there has ever been. People all around the world are taking part in this movement, called "Fridays for Future" by now. Greta won a lot of prizes, including being elected "Person of the year" by the time magazine. She has had the chance to speak to many, very powerful people, for instance, she held a speech at the UN climate conference in the US, travelling there with a sailing boat and left a strong impression with her moving, honest and angry words . She has also had to experience a lot of hate and has been accused of conspiracies. She believes that her Asperger's helps her through all of this because it enables her to stay focused and not get excited about her fame. The teenager is vegan, doesn't fly and doesn't buy new things unless she really has to.

Greta first found out about the climate change and its devastating consequences when she was 11 years old and her primary teacher showed his students a video that showed floods, weather changes and how polar bears are starving because human destroy this planet with their impact on the weather. After that she had a very serious depression. Her father told her that everything would be ok but then he researched and found out that that was not true at all. This led to the family becoming mostly vegan and not flying anymore (which was a big sacrifice for her mother, an opera singer who travels around in Europe). Slowly Greta got better. The teenager decided to strike in August 2018, inspired by the students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., who had recently organized school strikes to protest gun violence in the U.S.

Scientific facts that explain climate change 🔍

The most common scientific explanation for global warming is the so called "Greenhouse Effect". It's actually the natural phenomenon that allows our planet to maintain the necessary conditions to harbor life: The atmosphere captures some of the sun's rays that reach the earth's crust, keeping them inside to maintain an average temperature of 15°Celsius on the earth. The atmosphere is composed of various natural gases, some artificial gases and finally, the greenhouse gases, including methane, ozone, carbon dioxide, etc.. In the right proportion these greenhouse gases are not dangerous for the environment but since their concentration has been increasing drastically over the last century because of human actions the atmosphere retains more heat than necessary, which leads to the temperature rising, floods, desertification, melting icecaps, storms and fires. The three main causes of all of this are the burning of fossil fuels, the forest deforestation and destruction of marine ecosystems and the increase of population that increasingly consumes natural resources.
97% of the scientists agree that the climate change is caused by human. This was shown by various studies, the most famous one is Jame Cook's made public in 2013.

My opinion about the climate strike😊

I support the climate strike very much, I took part in the ones that were organized in the city I lived in, too, even though our headmaster prohibited it. The organization has made me and a lot of other individuals realize how serious things actually are. If we don't act now, we won't be able to handle what is coming towards us. Greta delivers this message brilliantly with her unconditional honesty and strength. She and the movement ,,Fridays for Future" do the things that the authorities are supposed to do: Take care of our future. And when people like Trump or all the other haters insult this inspiring teenager, accuse her of catastrophizing the situation and follow her every step just to get the chance to twitter the word "conspiracy" or "hypocrisy" while not lifting a finger against global warming that really says more about them than about anyone else: In my view it's clearly a sign of their egoism, as well as their lack of self criticism and responsibility . It's simply a way of cleaning your conscious, of lying to yourself over and over again in order to continue living your life as comfortable and harmful to the environment as always without having to feel even just a tiny bit of guilt. Everyone can contribute to saving the climate with simple things, like avoiding planes, plastic, meat, etc.. Becoming vegan or giving up driving is really not such a big deal when you think about what is happening to our planet.
