It was with great sadness that I learnt our Pat had passed away after her long illness. There is some comfort knowing she died peacefully at home with her family.

Pat was one of our longest-serving members of staff, having managed and worked in several teams across the University, before finally becoming Assessment and Regulations Manager in Academic Registry. She also combined her career with raising her family and achieving her Business degree with us.

Pat had an unwavering support for this University and all its aims. She was passionate about the benefits that higher education could bring, as she herself could demonstrate. This support and passion was combined with honesty and integrity, and often forthright views on the quality of services and support we should provide. She never lost that energy or zeal.

During her career, Pat had been an incredible support, guide, and mentor to many staff, both past and present. Her more recent work supporting assessment, the Scheme Board and changes to our academic regulations gained her even more respect and admiration from others, including external examiners and our University partners. Her death is a great loss to everyone who worked with her.

Personally, I enjoyed working with Pat immensely. Her ability to challenge, be open to new ideas and look at existing processes afresh made her a pleasure to work with. I will miss her greatly. I recall our very first meeting when the first thing she said was that she intended to retire in 3 ½ years! I used to tease her by saying "But Mrs Pat, it's been a year since you said that, and you're still retiring in 3 1/2 years!" She'd then give me one of those looks. You know the one!

She was a source of good advice and useful intelligence for a newly arrived Academic Registrar and this one appreciated that very much!

For Pat, the University was also a family affair, and I send, on behalf of everyone at the University, our deepest and sincerest condolences to Laura and Nish and all their family. Pat was a proud and loving mother, and grandmother and much, much more.

Pat has left us an example to follow and that will be her lasting legacy to us all.

Jo Coward, Academic Registrar

Where do I start! Pat gave me my first job at the University many moons ago and taught me everything she knew for when I moved on. She was always there to help, advise and just for a chat and laugh. We used to put the world to rights when we went out and smoked, that was where we had our best ideas.

Pat was a close friend of Sharon M and the laughs we used to have when we got together will never be forgotten and every time we played Trivia we all fought to have Pat on our team as we knew we would win :-D

The only saving grace now she has passed is that she is with her beloved Dave, and she lives on through Laura, Lisa and the rest of the family, hope you are at peace now Pat gone but never forgotten.

Michellle X

A great friend is someone that listens, gives good advice and does not moan about your loud snoring!! Pat and I had many a good holiday. They did not always go as planned. One year when my children were young, we arrived in Spain at at hotel we had been in the previous year. When the taxi driver dropped us off the hotel had been knocked down. We sorted accommodation out and then had a good laugh and enjoyed the rest of the holiday. When we were packing to go to Malta Pat decided she was going to carry the shared suitcase down the stairs. When she picked up the suitcase she ripped her big toe nail off and ended up in A&E with Laura the evening before we flew. After a few mini disasters holidays I think Laura decided I was not to book any further holidays without her approval lol. We had so many other travel plans to get through, but unfortunately Pat was taken from us far too soon. I miss being able to call Pat and have a chat for many hour. My kids and I miss playing Trivial Pursuits with her on the Wii and generally enjoying her good company and vast knowledge. Miss you so much Pat xx
