This writing was kept safe because it was something I cared about. Writing this papelito was easy, it made me feel empowered to do so. The topic of veganism has always been a topic I had a lot of knowledge in and it made me feel empowered to talk about it. I researched a lot and talking about this topic in specific made me feel smart. Something that I've always had an insecurity about. I dropped the pin in a place where my research started. This papelito was the second papelito in the semester so it was during a timeline where it was near the beginning of our writing journey so it was important to reflect on research. I want to share this papelito now because it is important to recognize that I have knowledge in a certain topic. The reason why I have that knowledge is that I used my researching abilities to gain that knowledge and being able to share that with others will make me more confident to research and learn about other things. The course goal that relates to Goal 2: Critical Thinking and Composing. The papelito showed me conducting research and then sharing it through writing.

This writing was kept safe because it’s how my brain works when I'm telling a story. This papelito talks a lot about emotion. So I think that my mental space was probably really emotional at this point and I think it’s really interesting how your writing can change depending on your mental state. I want to share this papelito now because it’s a good reflection of my writing process. The course goal that this connects to is conventions. This is because when telling a story you have to look at all of the sides of telling a story like the audience, style and structure. In my papelito I was reflecting on how I tell a story which connects to structure and audience.

Papelito 4

Imagine our field trip could happen ANYWHERE in the world. Where would you want to go? Why? What would you want us to learn together in that location?

When I was writing this Papelito I was really in the mental space of thinking of borderlands. In my papelito I talk about how if we could go anywhere for a field trip I would go to France. I was thinking of the borderland situation and France and how that could be a good learning opportunity for class. He could compare contrast differences between the borderlands in the US vs France. I want to share the papelito now because it gives context to my understanding of borderlands. This is connected to the course goal critical thinking and composing. This is because I talk about different borderlands across a different community which is France.

My writing process was kind of random with this assignment just because I had to kind of be more creative and more observant with all of my surroundings. The purpose of this assignment was so we can observe more than meets the eye at first glance. It was so we can step out of that comfort zone and really describe a place. It was also an assignment for us to really compare and contrast observations vs inferences. Creating that meaning throughout this assignment was the goal. I think this assignment brought out good ideas that I might use in the future with my writing. Inferences and observations are good to have. But it is important to know which one to use in different situations to emphasize a point. This process of having a table could be something that I use when writing about a place.

I learned what my strengths and weaknesses are when talking about rhetorical strategies. In high school I did debate and logos, pathos and ethos with something I used repeatedly. So I know how to analyze writing through those rhetorical terms. The purpose of this assignment was to analyze sources and writing to better know what they were talking about or who they were writing to. This is definitely helpful when reading other people's work. Using rhetorical strategies to analyze writing is something that I know that I will continue to use throughout my education at the University of Arizona and beyond. It is critical to rhetorically analyze anything to know more about the writing. There is surface level writing and then there’s the messages that you might miss if you don’t analyze.

It was hard to draft a fotonovella because it’s not only writing you also have to think about pictures. Throughout this process the biggest thing that really helped me organize my fotonovella was my outline that I did. That made the process of taking pictures and structuring my fotonovela easier. I think the purpose of this assignment was to demonstrate how we can conduct research and tell it through digital storytelling. I think another important thing to note is the primary and secondary sources and how we used them through storytelling. I think That I’ll take away the process of doing primary and secondary research and put that into my future writing. Also analyzing the sources to better understand them would be something that I’ll try to do more often.

It was really interesting to hear feedback from my instructor and my peers that revised my work. It made the revision process easier. To hear from others about what I could change and what was good made my story better in the end. Some of the revision goals were to add more detail and dialogue to my story to make it more descriptive and real. I also tried to add a better hook to get the reader interested. I am usually hesitant to do peer review because I don’t really like to share my work. But this experience was not at all bad and it made my work better in the end.
