While I originated in Chemistry I changed my major to kinesiology, because I believe it will give me a better basis to go to medical school. With a strong education in the human body, I believe this major will give me a better understanding of how to care for patients.

Undergraduate Education- Minors

I plan to minor in both nutrition and philosophy, because I think they will both teach me uniquely important things for my future. Nutrition goes well with my major, as it gives me a broader understanding of the human body. Through the philosophy courses I have taken so far, I have learned a new level of compassion for and understanding of people. I think these two minors will help make me a more well-rounded, knowledgeable, and compassionate person, making me a better doctor.

Undergraduate Education- Clubs

This club focuses on bring women pursuing medicine together and helps members with personal and professional development towards medical fields. I think this club would help me not only create a community of like-minded individuals with similar academic goals, but also help teach me more about how to prepare for medical school and my future career.

Volunteer - Planned Parenthood

A large part of getting into medical school is high levels of both medical and non-medical volunteering. As a firm believer in a woman's choice and safe sex education, I believe every woman is entitled to the best possible medical care no matter her choice. I believe this is an amazing way to learn more about women's health issues in our society and have a better overall understanding of the barriers women face to receive healthcare.

Volunteer - Youth Challenge

I want to combine two past passions, volunteering for my community recreational softball team, and the CEC (council for Exceptional Children) club at my high school. volunteering for this organization will help me improve my patience and compassion for others, which I believe is a necessary trait for medical professionals. I will also be able to continue my passions of working with special needs children and athletics.

Undergraduate Education- Research on Campus

I think being involved in research here at Miami will be crucial to my education, as it will teach me real world applications of my studies and help prepare me for medical school. Even if the research does not pertain specifically to my future career, I believe the connections I build through the research community will help advance me as a student and help me pursue higher education.

Medical School

All of the doctors in my family have tried to get into this school since they made the tuition free, however none have succeeded. I plan to work hard and apply to this school in order to save myself from hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. Additionally, this school looks for different attribute from its applicants than other medical schools, such as genetics and physics labs, higher MCAT score, and more volunteer and community involvement.

Other schools I plan to apply to are Case Western Reserve. A family member is a professor and researcher at Case, and I grew up going to events and learning about the research done at the University. I think this school would be amazing to grow my understanding from a research perspective, however it is an extremely difficult school to get into. More realistic schools I plan on applying to are, University of Cincinatti, University of Toledo, Ohio State University, and Indiana University school of medicine.

Passion for Medicine

While my plans have and continue to change, I have always had a passion for two things sports/athletics and caring for others. This originally guided me into sports medicine, but later realized I wanted to focus on women's health needs. My interest in Women's health was strengthened by a family friend who was experiencing all the troubles of pregnancy and a friend who struggled to find proper reproductive care. I want to work to make all women and their choices feel respect and heard. However, I also want to keep my passions of athletics which is why I chose my major. With a more holistic understanding of the human body and how it works and what it needs to function properly, I hope to provide better care for the mother during pregnancy and post-partum.

Residency in Obstetrics and Gynocology at Cleveland Clinic

After medical school the next step to becoming an OB/GYN is doing my residency with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology. I hope to be able to do my residency at the Cleveland Clinic, as it has an amazing residency program. I hope to focus more of obstetrics rather than gynecology, as I want to work with expecting mothers and their overall health during and after pregnancy.

MCAT

Most schools are looking for no less than 127 per section or 511 overall. My goal is to be in no less than the 90% percentile to ensure I get into my choice of medical school meaning I need to strive for a 515. I have learned it is better to start studying for the MCAT well before you take it and I plan to continuously learn and study throughout my undergraduate education.

Career

My goals in my future career, are to not only help pregnant women through their journey, but also aid in their physical and nutritional health with my undergraduate knowledge. I want to help mother regain their confidence and strength as individuals and encourage proper health post-partum. Additionally, with the power of a strong education I want to fit for women's reproductive rights, to ensure all women make the best decision for their health.
