I agree because hearing a single tone that lasts for a long time can be very jarring and attention getting. Ratliff uses the example of a church bell tone. This sound is very classic and well recognized. It gives the listener a feeling of religious tone and nostalgia depending on their history with religion. This sound is a very well recognized sound and a powerful one. This idea of a single tone also brings repetition into the picture. Repetition is also a very jarring and attention getting sound, especially when it is the same sound over and over again. You can find single continuous tones in everyday life that get your attention such as the blow of a whistle or clapping.
