Greg was someone that was so loved by his entire family - his nieces and nephews adored him, as did his siblings. We were so lucky to have him as he was the first to jump in to take care of our grandmother, mother and brother when the need arose - with Laurie at his side. He was funny, caring and looked out for everyone. I loved seeing how happy his family made him - he was so very proud of Laurie, Hannah, Charlie and his sweet granddaughters. The world feels different without him in it - he will be sorely missed but I am so thankful he was a part of my life.

I loved Uncle Greg so much. He was always there with love and support at all times. I am so happy that I was able to spend time with him recently. I have so many great memories growing up that he was part of. I loved when him and Aunt Laurie would park the camper at mom's and dads and stay for a week. He always gave the strongest most loving hugs. He will be missed so much. I am thankful that he was part of my life.

Mr. Martin

Mr. Martin is how most of us who had the privilege of knowing him during our school years remember him. He was not only a great teacher, but an incredible person who made a lasting impact on so many of us.

My memories with Mr. Martin all took place at NCCS, but there is one memory that has stayed with me vividly over the years. It was June, and the school year was coming to an end. Things had begun to slow down in class, and Mr. Martin allowed my friends and I to bring our Xbox consoles to school so we could play Halo in his classroom. He rolled out the old tube television on the cart, we hooked everything up, and we spent the day playing while he watched us enjoy one of those simple moments of childhood.

At the time, we probably didn’t realize how special that moment was. Looking back now, I understand that it was moments like that that made Mr. Martin so special. He cared about his students, connected with us, and gave us memories that many of us will carry for the rest of our lives.

I will never forget you, sir. My deepest condolences and peace be with your family. You made a tremendous impact on so many of us, and your memory will continue to live on through the lives you touched.

Jerry Furboter

I feel so fortunate to have had Uncle Greg in my life and to have had so many wonderful memories of and with him. I have many precious memories of visiting Uncle Greg, Aunt Laurie, and my cousins including Charlie and Johanna at Grandma’s house over the years.

In 2012, Uncle Greg and Uncle Jeff officiated our wedding, which made that day even more special and meaningful to Mike and me. Uncle Greg’s beautiful marriage to Aunt Laurie, including the love, friendship, and devotion they shared, was such an inspiration to us then and ever since.

Uncle Greg will be deeply missed. We are forever grateful for the love and memories he gave our family.

Today we remember a man who gave so much of himself to the Village of Champlain. For many years, we served side by side on the Village Board, working toward one shared purpose — making our community a better place for everyone who calls it home. He showed up every single time someone needed him, without hesitation and without expecting anything in return.

He was selfless, caring, and unfailingly kind. The sort of person who didn’t just talk about helping his neighbors — he lived it. His steady presence, his willingness to listen, and his quiet dedication shaped our village in ways that will last far beyond his years of service.

Champlain is better because he was part of it. And those of us who worked with him are better for having known him. I will miss you Greg. Amy Gehrig
