This type of violence in some way influences or is influenced by gender relations.       
It includes: rape, sexual assault, relationship violence in heterosexual and same sex partnerships, sexual harassment, stalking, prostitution and sex trafficking.  These crimes are predominantly against women and perpetrated  by men.

According to the Department of Justice, 99% of all people arrested for rape are men. 
While some men are rape victims, men are almost always the perpetrator.
Another name to describe this type of atrocities is "Feminicide" ( a sex-based hate crime term, broadly defined as "the intentional killing of females because they are females")

This association was formed because nobody paid attention and helped victims of gender violence. Many hard-to-believe stories come to the association.

  • A 72-year-old woman who came looking for help said that her husband beat her every day with a whip since she was 16 years old. She relates that she had endured so much because she had no financial support, but finally decided that she wanted to live her last years  peacefully.

    • Another case is one about a gypsy couple. The man was one of the most jealous people,  he forced her to cover herself and every time he went to work he locked her up so no one could see her. Finally she ran away from home and asked to the association for help, but he swore that he would kill her as soon as he found her. The man ended up in prison  but he was detained for a drug trafficking case and not for gender violence, despite repeatedly breaching the restraining order that had been imposed on him. "

Moreover, they can see some situations such as their father yelling at their mother to the point that for them  it seems normal and therefore, in the future they will follow the same example.

    Another failure of our society is that instead of teaching men to respect women and not rape them, women are taught how to defend themselves against men.

    Unfortunately, there is not a place in the world where gender violence does not exist, but there are some cultures that drive this.  In some cultures the violence against women or the superiority of men is normalized. 

    Futhermore, the laws are not as effective and fair as they should be. It is true that over the years this has improve, but still there are a lot of things that should be change.]]>     2017-11-26 16:41:25 UTC https://padlet.com/anton48/xi1rvu2y19tl/wish/210160991     The history of the Law against Gender Violence in Spain https://padlet.com/anton48/xi1rvu2y19tl/wish/210167191 For years gender violence was considered a family problem and classified under the concept of "crime of passion", gender violence had to wait until December 2004 to pass a law to combat it : the Comprehensive Law against Gender Violence.  A law that was born  with a purpose: to protect the victims of mistreatment, to persecute the abusers, to prevent and eradicate this type of violence and turn it into a social problem to denounce.

    In the last years of the 90's different associations of women who worked with victims and studying violence raised the need for a specific law against this type of violence. 

    Feminism has always been the movement that has impulsed these types of actions.

But I think that the first step we should take each one of us is not to ignore the problem and act without any doubt when it is necessary.
