This stragey was helpful because although this is the view I try to approach in my classroom, I appreciated the second strategy of making the student learning contextual. I work to make connections between what we are learning, why it is important and how it connects to our everyday, but I often miss the step on students making the parallel through a project/activity, so that it is more self-directed, meaningful, and coming form their perspectives and life experiences. I think when we are able to incorporate that into our classroom learning, thats when students really begin to learn from each other and value different perspectives and experiences.

Gholdy Muhammad's framework fits within Culturally Responsive Teaching, while working to take a historical lens and focus on 4 pillars: Identity, Skills, Intellect, and Criticality. For me, the criticality piece fits in with what we've been focusing on in CPT and in our gifted work.

I was able to make a connection to the use of whole body teaching. Using songs, pneumonic devices and body movements to help students learn and memorize different math concepts. Also making your manipulatives that are culturally relevant.
