Der gemeinnützige Verein, dessen Tätigkeit nicht auf Gewinn gerichtet ist, stellt sich zur Aufgabe diskriminierungsfrei Kunst, Kultur und Kommunikation im öffentlichen Raum sowie den produktiven Austausch von Wissen auf theoretischer und praktischer Ebene zu fördern. Menschen unabhängig von ihrer sozialen Position die Möglichkeit zu bieten, in künstlerischen Austausch zu treten sowie das Kulturangebot in der Region zu nutzen und zu gestalten. Einen Freiraum für spielerische, sinnliche und humoristische Aktivitäten, Ideen und deren experimentelle Umsetzung sowie interkulturellen Dialog, insbesondere zur Förderung von Begegnungen innerhalb nachbarschaftlicher Strukturen, zu schaffen und allen Lebenskonzepten unverschlossen zu begegnen.

Wie wir dorthin kommen wollen (Aktivitäten)

Das Gmota ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein, der Alternativen zur vorherrschenden konsum- und gewinnorientierten Soziokultur auslotet, Alltagskultur erprobt. Durch verschiedene Angebote versucht das Gmota, Freiräume zum Austausch und usleben von Fähigkeiten, Kenntnissen, Ideen, Wissen und Ressourcen zu bieten. In den Gmota-Räumlichkeiten finden sich offene Werkstätten (z.B: Nähen, Fotolabor, Computer, Reparatur- und Holzwerkstatt) sowie ein Kostnixladen und eine offene Saatgutbank. Der ca. 25 m² große Gmota 'Open-Space' öffnet sich all jenen, die auf Basis freiwilliger Spenden Kurse, Workshops und Seminare abhalten oder temporär Platz zum Proben und Werken suchen. Dahinter befindet sich der 18,33m² große 'Hidden-Space' den wir derzeit zur Nutzung erschließen. Die angrenzenden, lichtdurchfluteten Räume an der Ecke Münzgrabenstraße–Hafnerriegel beherbegen das Gmota-Kollektivcafé. Ein gemütliches Lokal, das ohne Konsumzwang Getränke und Speisen gegen freiwillige Spende anbietet und Raum für Treffen, Konzerte und Filmvorführungen zur Verfügung stellt. Sämtliche Aktivitäten von Gmota basieren auf gegenseitiger Großzügigkeit in Form von gemeinnütziger Arbeit und Geldspenden zur Bezahlung von Materialkosten. Gmota versteht sich als strukturell offenes Projekt und freut sich über Menschen, die mitgestalten wollen.

Beteiligung: Wie du dich einbringen kannst

Du kannst deinen Bedürfnissen entsprechend die zur Verfügung gestellten Räumlichkeiten nutzen und adaptieren.
Ideelle Strukturen können am Besten am monatlich stattfindendem Vereins-Treffen gemeinsam erarbeitet und gestaltet werden. Diskussionen können vor Ort und über den E-Mail-Verteiler des Gmota-Kerns stattfinden. Am Besten ist es, dass du dir persönlich von den räumlichen Strukturen ein Bild machst und deinem eigenen Interesse entsprechend und folgend das Potential an Beteiligungs-Möglichkeiten erkundest. Um hier Online eine Idee zu bekommen in welcher Art und Weise du dich am GMOTA beteiligen kannst: Moderation des monatlichen Treffens, Beantwortung von Kontaktanfragen über E-Mail und Telefon, Küchendienste, Tee und Kaffee-Kochen, Hausführungen geben, Veranstaltungen organisieren und planen, die Räumlichkeiten instandhalten und weiterdenken, Einheizen, Kohlen-Schaufeln, Modell-Stehen, Witze-Erzählen, Blumen-Gießen, auf die Hausschuhordnung achten, den Hausfrieden wahren etc. Schreib uns an email, oder hier : http://gmota.at/kontakt/ . i know, this project *Flotte Lotte* (i don't remember the right name. box with cards ,where people can exchange their knowledge and experience ) is a bit forgotten, but it would be great to point attention on it somehow, because this project is a cool one. done! great !

GMOTA is a non-profit organisation that explores alternatives to the current consume-oriented and revenue-oriented culture. With different offers GMOTA aims to provide open spaces to exchange and live out capabilities, skills, ideas, knowledge and resources.

In GMOTA rooms there are open workshop places (e.g., needling, photo laboratory, office, bikerepair and wood workshop places) as well as a 'Kostnix-laden' (a 'shop' where people can exchange things) and an open seed-library. 25m² GMOTA’s openspace welcomes everybody willing to hold courses, workshopes or seminars on the basis of voluntary donations as well as people looking for a temporary space for working and rehearsing. GMOTA Kollektivcafe is located in adjacent light rooms on the corner of Münzgraberstraße and Hafnerriegel. It is a comfortable café without obligation to purchase, where food and drinks are offered on the basis of voluntary donations. Furthermore, it provides space for meetings, concerts and movie screenings. Via the installed card box 'Flotte Lotte – Börse des praktischen Wissens' people who are willing to learn something can find people who are eager to teach and help someone to get new knowledge and skills.
In addition, we have a minibus called 'Flori', which can be used by everyone to transport people and things throughout Graz and the whole world.
All GMOTA activities are based on mutual generosity in the form of voluntary donations and charity work. GMOTA sees itself as structurally open project and welcomes everyone willing to get involved.

welcome to a strange and wonderful heap of people called Gmota!
Before anything else, the Gmota is an autonomous space open to anyone and everyone regardless of age, gender, origin, religion, political inclination, etc; provided said anyone and everyone is open-minded and non-inclined towards bigotry.

The Gmota is made up of different spaces, all available to the association‘s affiliates/sympathizers.
If you are reading these lines, the chances are you have come in through the café door (which makes you a de facto sympathizer). The Gmota café is one of the Gmota‘s projects. Essentially, the association runs a non-profit, non-commercial, vegetarian/vegan coffee house. Everyone is welcome to sit down and have a coffee, eat a piece of cake, sip a delicious soup, or even just warm their tired bones around the stove. Of course you can also always bring your own food and eat it there without any pressure - take your time and your space here.
Our aim is to offer a place of interaction rather than a temple of consumption. The café is a meeting place for friends, but also for friends that still have to meet. To this effect, we have put together the „Flotte Lotte“. The „Flotte Lotte“ is a community treasure box, that allows you to share your personal skills (from tying shoe-laces to reversed vasectomy), and to find other skilled people around you that are willing to teach YOU something new.

Behind the café, lies the open space, which is -as its name cunningly suggests (in a very subtle way) - a room sacrificed for the spatial needs of the creative, imaginative and pragmatic. Besides the café and open-space, the Gmota hosts a „Kost-Nix-Laden“ - a free second hand shop - an office space with computer & internet; a work/repairshop; a seedbank (for the preservation of our local species... of PLANTS); a photo minilab, and anything else you might come up with.

Our oldest and most reputable member is „Flori“: a 1992 Renault Trafic mini-bus. This trusted companion is the back-bone of our association. Always there to help us in our Gmota chores (e.g. fetching groceries and wood for the winter), Flori is also very keen to exhibit its oily, French anatomy owing to frequent glitches & necessary repairs.
