·       Women in Turkey were discriminated for over a decade just because they wear hijab.
They weren’t allowed to enter public schools, libraries and public buildings. Also, those who were protesting or refusing to take off their hijab were arrested and many of whom weren’t able to graduate from their schools. There were also persuasion cells in universities to convince the women to take off their hijab. In today’s Turkey, there is no such thing as ‘’hijab ban’’ but in private foundations women are still discriminated just because they wear hijab. Mavi, which is a famous brand in Turkey, doesn’t accept the applicants who wear hijab. Although Mavi apologized, we can still observe prejudice against women who wear hijab.

·       In 2016, 75 women were raped, 120 women were sexually harassed, 417 girls were sexually abused and 329 women were subjected to gender-based violence. And these numbers are the ones that took place in media. Universities are places which sexual abuse is prevalent. However many of the incidents go unreported. A survey amongst university students revealed that students who were witnessed sexual abuse preferred not to report because they believed no institutional action would be taken. (%67)

*With a birth of a male,the society gives him dominance.


The society in Turkey always finds a way to judge people. More we aged and more rumours and judgements pursue us.So it pushes us to live without our tastes.

Gender inequality in Turkey is debated for many years in Turkey.Everybody says  this is happening because of society but they disregard something very important.We are a part of society too.If we start from our family life,most people clearly see that this is a managable problem.If a girl has a elder brother or a little brother, her brothers can go outside night and come home whenever they want even 4-5 am.As an individual everybody has same rights but our rights are restricted by our families.Hence,most of the men and women behave what they learn from their families.If their families are equal to both their daughters and sons, future mothers and fathers behave their childreen in  same way too.It is a chain.When we   look into these families,we see that they are ignorant people.To prevent gender gap as a country we should improve ourselves.We should read,watch and listen.In this way gender inequality can be prevented by our society.

Even a few years back, the woman used to be dependent on men economically, therefore, alimony was important for them, so that they do not live under bad conditions due to financial disability.
A growing number of women are paying alimony and child support when their marriages break up because they're gaining their financial indepency.

According to ŞÖNİM (Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center linked to Samsun Family, Work and Social Services Provincial Directorate) 406 victims were men, in total of 9474 victims in the last 6 years.
However these statistics are gathered based on the number of reported incidents. I would suggest a large proportion of men who are victim to domestic abuse have never disclosed to anyone.
