Within reading this, I think a huge fear that comes up would be failure to learn the technology. In this reading it mentions that progress was being made but, it stopped when COVID happened. In the reading it mentions that since a lot of children gained access to technology because it was an emergency, there was no time to teach the students how to use it, let alone teach the teachers how to use it. So, a big fear for me is failure to learn because I don't want to be put in a situation like COVID where everything becomes online and I have no knowledge on how to continue to make my classroom active with their technology use. At my high school, I was given a lot of opportunities to practice active use of technology but, I have not learned it from the perspective of being an educator. I am hoping with this class, this fear will be eliminated.

In reading this, I have hope that I will succeed in learning how to implement this within my classroom. It mentions how in North Carolina is reforming their technology usage in schools. They have funds for their teachers to become certified in different areas and also have funds for their students to have access to technology. The state has different people traveling to different parts of the state to make sure that the teachers are trained and confident within their abilities. In North Carolina, they want their students to be able to move on through life with the tools necessary to do so. I think this is a great initiative and it gives me hope that other states will follow their lead.

While reading the NETP, it mentioned COVID and how technology was integrated so heavily during that time. But it was implemented not as a creative tool, but rather as a last resort. Personally, I don't have a lot of experience with technology, which is a fear of mine especially as a future educator. Even though I used it very heavily during COVID, it was never used to its full potential.

My hope is to meet the needs of all learners using technology. While reading the NETP on page 12, the BCSC did research in 2023 on how to reduce the technology barriers and how to improve teaching all while meeting the needs of every learner. This is my hope that integrating technology can be a way for myself as a future educator to create a more inclusive and accessible learning environment.

Teachers being thrown into explaining technology they do not precisely understand themselves is a common occurrence and one that, quite frankly, scares me. My biggest takeaway from the reading regarding my fears surrounding a lack of preparation is to begin to enhance my skills in flexibility and adaptability because these will prove vital in my career as an educator.

A fear that immediately comes to mind when I think about having to teach using technology in the future is that I will no longer be in control of the environment within my classroom. It is mentioned in the reading that although these school systems have good intentions when encouraging the use of technology in classes, it becomes extremely difficult to keep up with its evolution. By making tests, quizzes, assignments online, students have way more access to websites, sources, and distractions that could potentially affect their learning. Engagement with the lesson at hand is the most important, and if students lose sight of that due to laptops and tablets it can make managing a classroom more difficult.

Through technology we are preparing children for the world as it advances and to be a part of equipping them for real-life situations will be very rewarding. Knowing that I could see many students thrive from the use of technology alone gives me hope that it will be worth adding to my curriculum.

One of my fears regarding technology in the classroom was how accessible the materials would have to be to successfully implement this. Implementation goes beyond giving students Chromebooks and sending them home with virtual assignements. What if the student doesn't have access to Wifi? What happens in that event where there is no third-space available? The text suggest that we should increase statewide support by making technical decisions based on accessibility and educating parents on proper etiquette surrounding technology. While this sounds great in theory, the system is too massive to successfully implement this while upholding quality education.

This connects to the National Education Technology Plan because it talks about how students from historically marginalized groups often don’t get the chance to use technology for more creative or engaging purposes. If I’m not careful, I could fall into this pattern too, and my students wouldn’t get the full benefits of technology.

I’m keeping an open mind in this class, but right now I don’t think young children should be learning through screens.

During reading this it talked a lot about covid and how technology was used during that time. A big fear of mine would be that if technology is realized on again that heavily that my students wouldn't be able to access it due to their background. My brother was an educator during covid and i remember him telling me most of his students weren't able to come to class simply because they did not have the fund for the technology needed. I remember feeling awful for these students who were stuck in a situation they couldn't get out of.

For me, my fear of using technology ineffectively in the classroom is something I've seen reflected in the NATP. From what I've experienced working as a TA at a school with a historically marginalized student body, our school doesn't use technology effectively. Students may watch videos on the Promethean Board or do activities on iPads from time to time, but that seems to be the only areas we implement technology in the classroom. While I recognize that the students I work with are between ages 4-5, I feel as though we can do more to engage them with technology, rather than simply occupy their time. The problem is, teachers aren't provided with either the time nor resources to implement technology in their classes. For me, that's why I fear that technology will be something I'll be ineffective with when I become a teacher.

Reflecting on my hopes for technology in the classroom, I hoped that implementing it in my classroom would help make it more accessible. I've seen this reflected in the NETP, mentioning how technology can be deeply beneficial for students who are English Learners (EL). I work with students who predominantly speak Spanish, so I can attest that having a means to actively engage them with something they can understand would be a substantial thing to include in the classroom. While working with them to learn English isn't impossible for some of my students, providing more accessibility to those that may be struggling would benefit the classroom as a whole. Having a student get left behind in my classroom is something I refuse to let happen, and I continue to hope that effectively implementing technology into the classroom can help to reduce that fear.

Over the course of my education, I have always been organized and well-planned, and I hope that this carries over into how I implement technology into teaching.

Some of my fears about using technology in school classrooms, like students becoming too passive or just using tech for drill-based practice, are reflected in the concerns raised in the National Education Technology Plan. The plan points out that younger students from marginalized backgrounds often experience technology in limited ways, which can hold them back from developing important skills. It reminds me that even in middle school, we need to be thoughtful about using technology to encourage creativity, problem solving, and active learning—not just as a way to fill time or prep for tests.

Many students do not have equal access to technology and therefore students are not getting an equal education. I fear that educators are becoming to reliant on technology. Yes, it can be a useful tool, but it comes with so many issues. Personally I learn better when using paper. Learning the fundamentals with technology may limit student's full understanding of the topics. Technology can limit many student's education because of access or learning styles.

Within the National Education Technology Plan, there is plenty of information that supports my hopes for the future. The most important factor for me was implementing digital health for students. Since we live in such a technology-forward world, it is vital that we are showing students how to interact with technology responsibly and monitoring their use during school. The manual wishes to accomplish this by setting digital boundaries, maintaining healthy sleep routines, and being mindful of technology use. From the three solutions, digital boundaries is by far the most important. All humans should be evaluating how much time is being spent on smartphones and learning how to balance online and offline activites.

One of my fears is that teaching technology in schools will be a gateway for children to be curious and start using technology at home in a way that is unsupervised and dangerous. It is imperative that we teach about safety as part of the curriculum.

One of my hopes is that students will be able to keep up with evolving technology using skills they learned in school. Since technology is every changing, it is important that we teach adaptability when it comes to technology in hopes that students can tackle whatever new innovations happen in the future.

My biggest fear with technology in the classroom is not being able to tell if students are on task without constantly monitoring the screens and how to balance the use of technology with traditional means of instruction. This fear is briefly touched on as students report that the number one way they use technology is to take tests online, while this is a problem with how students engage with technology. It also makes me nervous that during testing, students have the ability to access information that they don’t know on their own, or that they will rely too much on the internet to give quick solutions/answers when I want them to think critically.

One of my biggest hopes for incorporating technology into the classroom is just how many more opportunities its use presents for engaging lessons and collaborative work, allowing students to grow into skills that maybe weren't introduced yet. With this, I also hope that it prepares them for future classrooms, as it doesn't seem like technology will be leaving education anytime soon. Understanding how technology can add positively to the classroom is best for the student as they need to be prepared and fully utilize what is at their disposal.

In the age of technology, I am afraid of having a degree of dependence on the technology to be able to effectively teach. I know it is integrated into the profession and will always be used to an extent, but the reliance on technology as a tool can be referenced in the realm of "digital health" by the NETP. I think that there is a very genuine balance there but definitely have a fear of going overboard. I also fear the students' over reliance on technology as a means to interact with and experience the world and their own education.

I hope to be able to utilize technology in a constructive capacity. Students need to see technology as a tool they can employ to further their objectives, and not as a new medium for busy work. Work sheets have always sucked for kids, and they still do now that they're not printed. I want to use technology as a means to facilitate personal development and critical thinking in the classroom. I hope for it to be a tool, not a crutch. This is definitely an integration o principles from the NETP.
