So I'm an English teacher, yeah. Yesterday I was finishing off the novel 'Everything, Everything' (Nicola Yoon) with my year 8 class. I wanted them to understand how the protagonist would have felt arriving in New York City for the first time, so I actually decided to experiment with Google Cardboard!! It's such an affordable way of dealing with Virtual Reality!! It hooks up to their phones and connects to different VR apps like 'Virtual Desktop' and 'Colosse'. The kids loved it. Seriously. SO MANY INTERESTING QUESTIONS CAME UP IN CLASS DISCUSSIONS!!]]> 2019-10-26 06:15:33 UTC https://padlet.com/eloisenewbery1/xhq1yksod1ob/wish/402845818 https://padlet.com/eloisenewbery1/xhq1yksod1ob/wish/403765172 I definitely think that students got by fine without mobile devices back in the day.   They learnt, they grew, the went on to get jobs and achieve in their chosen career paths.  But phones also offer new opportunities to make learning something bigger and more exciting.  A few days ago I mentioned  'Google Cardboard' and how you can bring the scenes in a novel to life by allowing the students to almost VISIT them.  Scenes from any time or place.   They could describe and draw a scene of their own creation and see it through virtual reality. There's endless opportunity for collaboration.
