https://padlet.com/marytesflidetluv/xhhg4fn4vtpa en-us 2016-02-02 05:48:27 UTC 2026-03-17 22:04:01 UTC hello@padlet.com marytesflidetluv https://padlet.com/marytesflidetluv/xhhg4fn4vtpa/wish/92497883 Hello Everyone,  I believe Vice News has a great perspective on world issues, this is one article that caught my eye.I read an article posted to the Vice News website (news.vice.com) entitled “Vice News Investigation Finds Signs of Secret Phone Surveillance Across London.”  The article describes the use of a new technology known as an IMSI Catcher or Stingray.  These devices have been in use in the UK, the USA, and many other countries around the world for several years now.  They are meant to be used only by official government national security forces, and their use is supposed to be highly regulated, however, police in the US and UK will not discuss the capabilities of IMSI Catchers or how they are used.  Police forces say that their refusal to discuss the devices is due to the potential for such information to be used by criminals to reverse engineer or disable the devices.  The investigators also show how easy it is to obtain these devices on the black market.  Although it is illegal for non-government entities to use IMSI Catchers in most countries, the investigators managed to contact a supplier in China who would sell one to them and ship it disguised as a legal radio frequency booster.  The supplier confirms that IMSI Catchers can be used to track people's location, jam signals, and possibly even intercept phone calls and messages.  Even when used by police to collect data, the devices do not discriminate between the phones of the criminals being tracked, and the phones of innocent civilians.  The article offers an eye-opening look at these secretive and little known devices, their dangers, and how they are used and could possibly be misused.
