Most composers that are commonly known and still played today would include Beethoven, Brahms, Handel, Mozart, Bach, etc. Most of these people are from Germany or of German descent. In their time they were not as popular as they are today. Now their works are known to be the most representative and the "greatest" of classical music. In our assigned reading I noticed that the "winners" are the people who's music is still played hundreds of years later. The "losers" are pretty much women, and composers that weren't German. (Of course Germans weren't the only ones to be memorable however it was a good handful of them that were.) Performers try to keep their music as true to the original content as possible out of respect for the creators. As I listened to 101.1 I noticed they played a lot of Beethoven!
