I haven't honed my philosophy to fit in a space like this. As a matter of fact, this medium is the most concise way that I'm able to articulate it at this point--which was my motivation for creating it. The creation and articulation of a teaching philosophy is a recursive and ongoing process, so I'm sure I'll continue to refine it as the semesters pass. I think I've articulated my philosophy clearly in my syllabus, in the Teaching Philosophy section. I also address particular aspects of it in other sections. To ensure that my students get a clear but succinct version of my philosophy, I talk them through it on the first day of class and will now be able to show them this padlet. I also strive to consistently illustrate my teaching philosophy through my teaching methods and interactions with students. Thank you so much for your interest and for contributing! I'm sure I've already given you more than you asked for, but in case you're curious, here's the link to my syllabus on the course website: http://engl2300.weebly.com/syllabus.html#sthash.hqyUTxp6.dpbs

By the way, how did you happen to find this?

Yes, SLO quesstions are vital indeed, David. I also ask questions regarding the most effective ways

to achieve these outcomes, ways that will ensure maximum student interest and engagement

while not sacrificing rigor and learning. The what, the how, and the why are all important aspects to

consider equally. I've recently begun emphasizing the why with my students so that they have some sense

of the value of our course content and assignments beyond requirements, policies, and grades.

Thank you so much for your contribution, David! If you don't mind me asking, how did you happen to find this?
