The cartoon consistently stays with the same color palette. The color grey appears in the user's thoughts, which represents sadness and depression. Yellow makes an appearance as well, symbolizing the emotion of happiness and positivity. The artist's choice in color was most likely intentional to compare these opposite colors and feelings. The color blue is also used, but I think it is mainly because that is Facebook's colors. However, blue represents a cool and calming effect. Perhaps the user was in a calmer state before, but it soon transitioned into depression without her knowing.

Satire

This is satirizing because the cartoon is making fun of the depression that is consistently happening to teens, mainly because of social media. Although they are viewing the cheerful posts, they cannot help but compare themselves to others. They are upset that their life isn’t as interesting. They lean towards despair and is jealous of others. The cartoon laughs at teenagers who wildly misinterpret the meaning of social media. People only want to share their best moments with others, not the bad. The users in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. are all facadess, a character. They create a profile shows only the captivating moments of their lives, but that does not summarize their life story. Teenagers need to understand that everyone has problems and they want to keep it off the Internet. They will never show their lowest moments of their life, no matter how much they long to see others suffer just as they are.

The user’s fingers are placed on the keyboard, showing that she voluntarily involved herself. Perhaps she is retaliating towards a post that created jealousy inside of her. Instead of ignoring the post, she may decide to fight fire with fire, which could possibly create a serious situation.

Although the user is depressed by what she is viewing, it seems that she cannot look away from her desktop. Rather than look away and click exit from the website, she continues to view what is being posted. It can be assumed that the user is addicted to the media, despite being negatively influenced, because of her slouched position. She is leaning into the media rather than looking away.

The user seems to be scrolling through Facebook. However, it projects happy faces rather than actual posts. It is emphasizing the happiness of Facebook, being able to connect and share with others. In the center, there is a huge yellow happy face, as if trying to catch the eye of the user, persuading her to look at it. The user could be interpreting it as if they are trying to make her feel small and insignificant due to the large size of the happy faces.

The thought bubble can connect to the user and allows us to see what she is currently feeling. It is filled with gray frown faces. She converted the positive posts of other people into a her own depression, which is strange since it should be creating a positive emotion. She ought to be happy for the users. Instead she misinterprets their cheerful pictures and/or posts into something ugly. Perhaps she is jealous that she cannot relate to the joyfulness posts of others and that makes her feel miserable.
