He was born in 598 BC to Jishnugupta (his father).
Brahmgupta made advances in astronomy, such as finding the method to calculate the position of heavenly bodies over time, the calculation of solar and lunar eclipses, their rising and setting, and conjunctions.
In his book, Brahma Sputa Siddantika, he describes mathematical content such as a good explanation of the role of zero, rules for the multiplication of both positive and negative numbers, a method of computing square roots, ways to solve linear and quadratic equations, and many more mathematical rules. 
He has contributed a lot to the field of Astronomy and Mathematics and has become one of the greatest Ancient Indian Scientists in history.
