Prospero exemplifies too much perspective ruining someone's character while Miranda exemplifies too little perspective blinding someone. Prospero has gone through a lot because his brother betrayed him, he got kicked out of his home and is now by himself with his daughter on an island. This has led to him asking Ariel to get revenge for himself by shipwrecking his brother and those on the ship with him. On the other hand, Miranda is blind to the truth because she has only ever known her father and Caliban. This causes her to trust too easily and her father says, "Speak not you for him" when she tries to defend Ferdinand whom she just met (Shakespeare 1.2.556). Miranda and Prospero exemplify that there are two extremes to perspective and they can caution people to not let it get in the way of decisions.

The boatswain and Antonio show that knowledge is a source of power. The boatswain has lots of knowledge about sailing and has more power during the shipwreck. He is making commands that in any other situation would have been taboo to tell Anotonio and the other noblemen, but in this situation, he has more power than them. Antonio does not like this so he tries to regain his power by insulting the boatswain and calling him "you whoreson, insolent / noisemaker" (Shakespeare 1.1.44-45). The boatswain is the most powerful during the shipwreck because he has more knowledge about the situation.

After years of mistreating Caliban whenever he messes up, Caliban knows no better, so when he is with Trinculo and Stephano, his immediate response is to beat Trinculo up for being annoying. An interaction between Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban reinforces this idea:

        STEPHANO. Stand further off.

CALIBAN. Beat him enough. After a little time

            I’ll beat him too.

        STEPHANO. Stand farther. (Shakespeare 3.2.91-94)

Stephano doesn't deem Trinculo interrupting them necessary of a punishment as harsh as beating him up, but Caliban does because that is what happens to everyone he has seen who is rude like that.
