This is the house that Luka Barukovich hides in after running away from his consontration camp. He stayed there for a couple month's after getting his wounds healed.

Main Character

This is Luka Barukovich also known as the main character. He is very brave and courageous. He and a girl named Martina ran around in the mountains escaping these camps. Martina found Luka and took him so they could both find there home but that they could do it together. Luka is very persistent on finding his family after the war is over. So, Martina decided to try and help him and they went on a very long trek.

This is what i imagine when they are running through the forest trying to escape. In one part of the book that really stood out to me was when they got taken to the UPA witch is an underground hospital where they get there wounds healed from the long trek. Also Martina and Luka went into a creek/stream witch made them get frost bite witch also made them get taken to the UPA.

This is what I kinda imagined what the underground hospital looked like. Luka and Martina decided to fight in the UPA. Luka as a medical helper and Martina as a solider. Luka stays there til the end of the war in 1945. Where he was told to head west rather than east.

Setting 4

Luka ends up here. Witch is a displaced people camp. Where he looks for his Mom and Lida. Eventually,he is reunited with Lida and lured away again with the promise that his father has been found and is living in Kyiv. So, he trust them and boards a truck with other Ukrainians returning home. Then they all later figure out that they had been duped by the NKVD (the soviet police) where they planned to kill them all as traitors but Lukas story does not end there.

Lukas mom said this quote. I think is very important because its saying like if you do bad things you will always get held accountable for it.

This quote was said from Luka.

I think that this can also relate to the story because the whole time they were kinda asking themselves what had come over their world at that point. So, I think this quote is important because of that.

I think this book was written very well. I enjoyed this book alot and would definitely read your other books. I think the way she like worded every chapter was amazing. The way you left the perfect amount of suspense. I really enjoyed your book and i think you did an amazing job writing it and capturing the feelings from this time in this book.

I rated this book a 5/5 because it was written very well. I actually enjoyed this book and it made me wanna pick up the book.
