Harry Styles inspired me to feel comfortable in whatever I feel like wearing whether it was a see through dressy shirt as shown above or wearing high boots because of him. In the article by Judith Lorber titled, "Night to his Day": The Social Construction of Gender, it explains how gender is socially constructed in which gender has to be a certain way but in reality, it's not. By using Lorber's concept of gender just because I decide to wear clothes similar to women doesn't assign me to specifically a "Male" or "Female" class neither is it attached to a biological substratum. Bring back manly men". Harry Styles has been recently known to explore the "fine line" between man and woman after his second studio album, Fine Line. As the news reporter tweeted, she believes men such as Harry have been losing their masculine side as a "Male" and ultimately being perceived as weaker because of his masculinity supposedly being lost. Using the concept Judith Lorber brings in her article "Night to his Day": The Social Construction of Gender," this perfectly exemplifies how society perceives Gender to be different in either "Male" or "Female". This can be seen in the eyes of Candace Owens as "virtually unthinkable" and possibly holding gendered norms and expectations. Chestnut is a hermaphrodite puffer meaning it has both reproductive organs of both sexes! This is significant to the article titled, "The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male-Female Roles" by Emily Martin and the concept of Sex being separated in the aspect to humans. Martin describes how the "egg" is seen as a passive reproductive object and sperm as strong and ultimately the one to do all the work. In reality, both are dependent on each other and other things that are included in the reproductive cycle. Both are dependent on something such as the sperm before coming out of a penis needs to be clean from urine which the body naturally protects with secretions. In this aspect of one sex being more dependent than the other, there is no dominant sex which is shown with my dragon puffer Chestnut. My mother loved to dress him up in outfits and hats such as the one pictured above and soon became a question of gender. Throughout my time having this dog, he was always assumed by visitors and relatives as a "she" because of the way he looked. His white hair, cute eyes and head, appealing colors, and gentle behavior soon became associated with "aww she's so cute". Continuing with the concept of Gender and specifically Lorber's article, this signalizes Lorber's concept of how gender is constructed by society. Just as gendered practices of everyday life reproduce a society's view of how women and men should act, it then applies to other things in life such as animals (Lorber). Ms. Deniz is a strong feminine activist and also is an example of Gloria Anzaldua's concept of "Mestiza Consciousness". Throughout my time in her class we often talked about the Mexican culture and the American culture. Using the concept of the "Mestiza Consciousness", which is having multiple identities rather than just one, Ms. Deniz always told me she had to defend herself against the traditional Mexican culture towards her parents. The idea of the man being the head of the household and the woman taking care of the kids while she cooked and cleaned was something Ms. Deniz strongly disagreed with whenever the topic was brought up. Considering she is also a feminine activist, she believed women should get equal pay as men and also have an equal amount of dedication within a family which included both parents contributing in all aspects. Her identity as a woman and of Mexican culture clash which is something she has always tried to get the best of both identities to be brought out throughout her life and as a teacher to young kids and children who are possibly feeling the same way as her.
