         <description><![CDATA[<p>There are many different many species of animal in Ghana, such as: Hippos - located mainly in the North Western region of Ghana, in the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary.&nbsp; They are quite shy animals hidden under water a lot of the time.&nbsp; Whilst they are quite shy, a hippo can be extremely dangerous if it feels it is under threat.</p><p>Fruit Bats - these harmless, nocturnal bats are usually found in caves&nbsp;in the &nbsp;Shai Hills near Accra and the Buoyem Caves that can be located just outside of Techiman.</p>]]></description>

It was written by Michael Kwame </span><span style="font-size: 13px;">Gbordzoe, who was selected from many entries for the national competition. Ghana is famous for their music and celebrations.</p><p>Ghana used to be called the&nbsp;"Gold coast." The name was changed to Ghana because its thought that the present day natives ancestors were migrants from the ancient kingdom of Ghana.</p><p>Salt was considered very valuable and the salt trade was heavily taxed by the king. Salt was sometimes used as money and was about as valuable as gold! </p>]]></description>

The red represents the blood of the people who died in the struggle for the country's independence, the gold represents the mineral wealth of the country and the green is for the country's rich forests. The black star represents freedom and gives the Ghana national football team their nickname "the black stars"</p>]]></description>

Wide savannahs extend to the north which covers 31% of Ghana's area and the northern region is divided into 20 districts.</p><p>In Ghana the population is about 27 million. The area of the country is 92,099 square miles. The name Ghana means warrior king. The Ghana Empire was built on trade in salt and gold, which is why the British called it the Gold Coast.</p>]]></description>
