Gene therapy that can modify genes for therapeutic reasons (Davis, 2012). A personalized CRISPR therapy (on demand) was developed and delivered this past year, with no adverse effects. This will pave the way for on demand gene therapies in the future for rare genetic diseases (Murdock, 2025). The patient who received the CRISPR therapy this past year is an infant with a genetic mutation causing a CPS1 (carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1) deficiency. Which is an ultra-rare disease of the urea cycle that prevented him from being able to break down proteins in food. His body isnt able to excrete ammonia properly which can cause permanent neurologic damage if untreated. The only treatment prior to this would be a liver transplant.(Murdock,2025). After receiving this therapy his body has been able to tolerate protein and has needed less medication to reduce the ammonia levels. Not only this, but he has gotten over some illnesses that previously would cause an excess build up of ammonia in his body. He also has had very little side effects from this therapy. He will still need monitoring for the rest of his life, but this treatment has given him another chance at life that he previously would not of had.

I think this is a great innovation and will have a huge impact on the future. I believe it will give a lot of people a chance at a longer and healthier life that they previously would not of had due to lack of treatments. This also could reduce the burden on people who normally would have to receive treatment for the rest of their lives. My only concerns are we wont know the long term effects it can have on people since it's so new and this will probably end up being very costly and not available to a lot of people.
