1. Islam is the prominent religion in Morocco. More than 99% of the population practice this religion. Islam was first
brought to Morocco in 680 by an Arab invasion under Uqba ibn Nafi. This religion was diffused to this region by people so it was spread by relocation diffusion. 2. This is a universalizing religion.

3. Islam:

It is a monotheistic religion. Their worship style is by observing five acts of worship, which are called the five pillars of Islam. These are built on the foundation of faith, the pillars of Islam help build and structure a Muslim’s daily life. They are Declaration of Faith (Shahaadah), Prayer (Salaat), Almsgiving (Zakat), Fasting (Sawm), and Pilgrimage (Hajj). Their sacred text is the Qur'an. Muslims think that the words of the Qur'an were given to them by God, the Prophet Muhammad. The Qur'an is a source of inspiration and guidance to Muslims. The Architecture of Islam is a lot of secular and religious styles. The mosque, the tomb, the palace, and the fort are all and from these words the architecture of Islam is formed and its used for buildings of less importance such as public baths and fountains. The buildings are very sophisticated and upscale and have been influenced by many different religions and groups of people.

1. Arabs and Berbers make up 99% of the ethnic groups in Morocco.

-Arabs are a panethnic group. They come from Western Asia, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and other parts of the Arab world. They are highly heterogeneous groups of people generally, with different ancestries and identities. Common linguistic, cultural, and political traditions bind the Arab people together. They speak mostly Arabic and they practice Islam.

-Berbers are the ethnicity that belongs to North Africa, west of the Nile River. originally they spoke Berber, but as more people came and the demographics of the country changed more and more Berber's began to speak Maghrebi Arabic from the result of either choice or obligation. After the invasion of the French the people were forced to speak French. The Berber identity is usually bigger than the language and ethnicity of the country. It holds the entire history and geography of North Africa. The majority of Berbers practice Sunni Islam and Christianity, Ibadi Islam, and Judaism are minorities.

d. What roles do women play in your country?

The literacy rate for men is 51% and 42.5% for women. This indicates that women's education is valued less important than males. 26 percent of the agricultural and farming work force is composed of women. In primary and secondary schooling, the ratio of boys to girls is 87 to 9. This indicates that women are used for more traditional things such as staying at home and doing things for the family and children while boys are expected to get a good education and go into the workforce and earn the money for the family. However, in the past 20 year the government has taken measures to try and improve the lives of women and their value in Morocco. for example, the Moudawana 2003 code of law has helped improve the family status and the value of a woman within a family and the right she should have compared to her husband and men of the house. These right include contributing to the decision making process when it comes to things such as marriage, divorce, and custody of children in events such as remarriage/divorce. Unequal value among genders are still an issue though inb education and the workforce in the country of Morroco.

e. Pop & Folk Culture

1. Folk:

-If you are going to take photographs of the local people, make sure to ask their permission. If you take a photo of someone with out their permission it can cause offense. This is really relevant when you are in rural areas. Taking a photo of a person without permission can result in them asking for money from you even if you only wanted to take a pretty picture of something. However if you are going to take a photo of someone who you have become friends with then that is okay and usually a sign of friendliness and welcomed in their culture. Usually people who you’ve become friends with will take you to a place where they can get a photograph taken with you. This is an example of Folk Culture because it is something that preserves and holds on to the tradition of Morocco and the beliefs of the people.

-Traditionally the men take to the streets and go into the workforce while the women are left to control of their homes and tend to the children. This indicates that you will not usually find the women in cafés or restaurants because they are at home tending to the household needs and helping the kids instead of going out into society. For example, If you are a woman and you make a new friend you will most likely be invited to the house to a meal, while men who make new acquaintances will most often be invited to a public place for a meeting or meal. This is an example of Folk Culture in Morocco because it symbolizes the tradition of the country and it shows that the people in the country still hold onto tradition of women having less value than men.

2. Pop:

-A scene from the movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was filmed in Morocco. This is an example of popular culture because it is bringing in current movies and culture into the country and showing the world that they can advance in society and be more modern and pop.

-"Sex and the City 2" was set in Africa and Morocco. this also exemplifies popular culture because it is bringing in more modern things such as colored films into a society with little popular culture and a lot of traditional ideas are being thrown out of society.

Racial Tension in Morroco

There is a lot of tension between blacks and whites. While reading one man's blog about his experience in Africa, and specifically morocco in particular I came upon an example.

He said that he had his first encounter while in a taxi in Africa with one of his friends. He arrived in Morocco in late August and this is when he came upon racism in the country. He was sitting in the taxi and on eof his friends said something along the lines of I am so excited to be in Africa and the driver said, “There are two Africa’s, black Africa and white Africa, Good Africa and Bad Africa”. The first real conversation they had with someone in the country consisted of racism. This is an example of racial tension in Morocco between the white and black Africa. He also talked about how he thought that maybe it was just the attitude of the driver, but as he began to explore the country he soon found out that the country has tons of racism, and that Africa has a lot of racial issues among its people.

They have also been expelled from participating in the biennial championship. They did this because the fear about a spread of Ebola. It has not been detected in the country yet, and no replacement host has been chosen to hold the event that is subject to take place on Jan. 17 to Feb. 8. This ties to culture because Ebola is a popular culture thing that has just recently been sparked around the world that is affecting something that is tradition such as participating in this championship.
