         <title>Bolivia Carnival Facts</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact 1 - La Diablada, a carnival that takes place in the city of Oruro, is celebrated in honor of Saint patroness of the miners. <br><br>Fact 2 - La Diablada is celebrated in a parade of over 50 dance groups that play and sing over a 5 km course. These dancers dress up as demons, Satans, Incas, and Spanish Conquerers. <br><br>Fact 3 - It is almost impossible to stay dry during this carnival. The locals love to have water fights while the carnival is taking place. <br><br>Fact 4 - After the first day the viewers are allowed to chose if they either want to join Tourpes and dance with it along the way of the parade. <br><br>Fact 5 - It is recommended to make reservations for accommodations well in advance or to arrive with a tent. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact 1 - Carnival of Barranquilla is the second largest carnival in the world. <br><br>Fact 2 - A lot of Barranquilla shuts down during the four days of the carnival because of the amount of people in the city. The event takes place during the four days leading up to Ash Wednesday.<br><br>Fact 3 - This event started occurring during the late 1800's, and the first president of the carnival was appointed in 1899.<br><br>Fact 4 - This carnival's attendees are from all different nationalities. Although it is a christian event, these people who worship different religions come just to have fun.<br><br>Fact 5 - UNESCO proclaimed the Barranquilla Carnival to be a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Mexican Carnival Facts</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact 1 - The Nahuatl-speaking people have long inhabited the south-central part of Mexico. These people came under Spanish rule in the early 16th century.<br><br>Fact 2 - European colonists were celebrating carnaval in the city of Tlaxcala in the mid 18th century wearing satirical costumes and masks.  <br><br>Fact 3 - By the mid 19th century, after Mexico gained its independence, Carnival took the form of elaborate parties and masked balls where guests performed square dances, and french quadrilles.<br><br>Fact 4 - Tlaxcala Indians regained a lot of their freedom and by the late 19th century communities started to start up their own pre-Lent festivities.<br><br>Fact 5 - Groups of people go through the streets of their neighborhoods and perform in front of homes of their family members and people who sponsor them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact 1 - A small community called, Laza, boasts about 900 inhabitants and entroido is the focal point around town where people organize their lives.<br><br>Fact 2 - The carnival that occurs in Laza is acted out through music, dance, and feasting. <br><br>Fact 3 - Ritualized aggression involves participants whipping spectators and throwing ash, flour, water, and dirt filled with ants.<br><br>Fact 4 - Peliquieros prance in the streets on Sunday morning and the well known sound of large bells hanging from their waist tells people that entroido has begun.<br><br>Fact 5 - These masqueraders, authorities in Laza's Carnival, carry whips to hit bystanders as a reminder that it is time to play.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact 1 - Carnaval de Santa Cruz de Tenerife is held each February in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is the capital of the largest of the Canary Islands.<br><br>Fact 2 - This carnival is known as one of the three largest carnivals in the world. <br><br>Fact 3 - In 1980, it was declared a Tourist Festival of International Interest. This carnival aspires to become a world heritage sight.<br><br>Fact 4 - The festivities on the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife start on the Friday before carnival with an opening parade, which reaches its peak during the night when thousands of people dressed in fancy dresses dance until the early hours of the next day. <br><br>Fact 5 - The party continues night after night until Ash Wednesday. That day, people of Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrate the burial of the sardine, and with this event the carnival is officially over.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact 1 - The festivities take place in the Dominican Republic throughout the month of February, although some Dominicans rarely celebrate during Holy Week in March.<br><br>Fact 2 - Dominicans are most festive on February 27th, this day is Dominican Independence Day. On this day the celebrations include a large military display with the Dominican air force, navy, and army.<br><br>Fact 3 - The festivities include wearing colorful costumes that symbolize Dominican religious and traditional characters such as Calife, Guloya, and Diablo Cojuelo.<br><br>Fact 4 - The christian slave owners would let their slaves have a celebration once a year so that they could get the “wild” out of their systems.<br><br>Fact 5 - Evidence has been found that shows that people have been celebrating this carnival since 1510.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact 1 - The Ponce Carnival is Puerto Rico’s version of Mardi Gras. This festival has been held  for over 200 years.<br><br>Fact 2 - This carnival dominates the historic downtown area in the city of Ponce. Most of the events take place at the town center.<br><br>Fact 3 - Parades take place daily starting with the Parade of the Carnival King on Friday night at 7pm and ending with the burial at midnight of Fat Tuesday.<br><br>Fact 4 - The vejigantes are the undisputed stars of the Ponce Carnival. These demons are straight out of centuries old folklore.<br><br>Fact 5 - In the early 1960's the carnival began to integrate floats that represented civic and cultural institutions.</div>]]></description>

This is a massive parade with parties, beauty pageants, and live bands. <br><br>Fact 2 - They use eggshells filled with confetti which are used for the sole-purpose of smashing them on peoples heads. <br><br>Fact 3 - This celebration is meant to be the last sort of excitement before the Lent season.<br><br>Fact 4 - The people during these events would dress up in colorful costumes, and there would be children running around throwing eggs everywhere.</div>]]></description>
