         <description><![CDATA[<div>I see future classrooms headed in a direction where students learn specific skills for a particular job path.&nbsp; I believe more and more companies will sponsor education environments tailored to produce the employees that would fit best for a specific company. For example, technology companies will create classrooms that are heavy on critical thinking and computer language skills. Students will not be required to take social studies if it does not fit into a company's plan. I even see traditional colleges being a thing of the past and replace with company-sponsored certification programs that would lead to employment with a particular company. – Brandon Proctor&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that the next generation's learning environment would be where students are provided with hands-on learning that interest the students. I think that the focus will be less on the teacher in front of the classroom and more on the students directing the teaching. I believe students learn best when provided opportunities that help display their strengths while providing them avenues to improve on weak areas. Students need more time collaborating with classmates to solve complex problems and developing critical thinking.&nbsp; I envision an environment that is not different from work-study programs of the past. – Brandon Proctor&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>If funding was not an issue, I believe that every school should have various hands-on studios where students could practice their trade. For example, every school should have computers to practice coding or designing videos game and cell phone apps. Schools could have labs where students could practice medical field skills such as nursing or research. School should have visual arts studios where students could practice making movies or putting together a soundtrack.          <description><![CDATA[<div>My suggestion for teacher training is not a new concept but is difficult for many teachers to understand.&nbsp; Teacher-centered classrooms should be a thing of the past.&nbsp; Unfortunately, many teachers still believe that a classroom should revolve around what they like or how they learn best. Many students are taught in classrooms where teachers feel they are the stars of the show and not the students. Teachers should serve as facilitators to help guide students learning. Unfortunately, many teachers find this role hard. How can we teach students critical thinking skills when they are not allowed to struggle and work out solutions independently?&nbsp; How can students develop into the future leaders that our country desperately needs when they are not allowed access to learning styles that suit them the best?&nbsp; The answer is that we can not and unless we are willing to change, or education system will continue to fall behind. – Brandon Proctor<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After this past year and COVID,&nbsp; teaching has hit another pendulum swing faster than ever before.&nbsp; We went from dipping our toes in the water with utilizing technology in the classroom, to diving head first into the ocean.&nbsp; In the coming years we are going to see a higher rate of student-led learning along with collaborative classrooms.&nbsp; We will be engaging our students with lessons that we give them the objective and they choose which way they want to demonstrate understanding.&nbsp; With the emergence of technology in and out of the classroom, it is preparing our students for jobs and lives, starting as early as Kindergarten, that are technologically driven.&nbsp;<br>Laura Pressnell</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>With everything that has changed, this next generation should have the option of online or in school learning.&nbsp; The past year has shown that some students thrive better when learning at home.&nbsp; Even with at home learning, the students will be able to work with their classmates collaboratively in real time.&nbsp; Using emerging technology such as tech tables that have flexible seating for those in class with touch screen TV’s that have all the audio hookups that allow for students to engage&nbsp; with their peers at home. Google continues to come out with apps that allow multiple people working together on the same project at the same time.&nbsp; An open classroom concept with different style/flexible seating will best allow students to learn best.&nbsp; Turning lessons into cross curricular and project based learning will be how our next generation students learn.&nbsp; They are growing up with technology and multitasking as a second nature.&nbsp; So why not allow them to use their strengths in the “classroom” environment?&nbsp;<br>Laura Pressnell</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>If funding was not an issue in our educational system, creating engaging educational opportunities for kids in school and online would be at the forefront of importance.&nbsp; Many times due to our lack of funding, teaching has become mundane and stuck in a loop.&nbsp; If I were to get a note saying I could buy anything I wanted in the area’s of hardware/software I could start with 1 to 1 tech devices for my students.&nbsp; I would want them to have a Chromebook for our school platform, but also have the option to have class sets of Windows operated laptops and Ipads in the room. The students would be able to check them out on an as needed basis.&nbsp; I have run into issues where certain platforms will not run on my students' Chromebooks.&nbsp; I would also put out a survey with all my third grade colleagues and students asking what programs we should adopt in the room.&nbsp; Many times I have learned different programs from my students that we can easily turn educational when given a standard.&nbsp; I would also want them to have audiovisual equipment that could be used to create video productions and podcasts.&nbsp;<br>Laura Pressnell</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After this school year I would say more than ever, teachers young and old now agree that keeping up with technology is a must.&nbsp; Before we were thrown into online /hybrid classrooms, we had many teachers, especially those that have been teaching for many years, that were against or hesitant to use technology and allow students to lead the classroom.&nbsp; But, over the past year, we have had the opportunity to see first hand how technology can not only strengthen and foster our teaching, but also allow students to demonstrate their understanding in ways we would have never dreamt of before.&nbsp; We need to continue this trend and every summer for the 2 weeks or so before school starts each year, have refreshers for staff on what is available for staff and students in trending technology and how they can be used.&nbsp; By giving this option in the summer/August, it allows teachers to think about how they can use technology in the coming school year, rather than in the middle or end of the year, when we already have planned out our lessons.&nbsp; Allowing these PD’s to be via Zoom/Zoom recordings or in-person also gives teachers more of an opportunity to complete them at their own pace and style.<br>Laura Pressnell&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After this year, I see future classrooms headed in a nore digital direction. When schools were forced to move to remote learning in the Spring 2020, a lot of teachers scrambled to find ways to instruct and deliver content in an online setting but also find digital resources that are engaging for our students while learning remotely. This year, I saw a lot of teachers maintain those resources through bleneded/hybrid learning, so I believe it's something that will stick around in the long run. Despite learning within the four walls of the school, I believe schools are taking a turn for a more tech savvy classroom.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is a tricky question. My school was fully in person this year, while a lot of schools in my area started the year remotely or hybrid. While we were fully in person, students were offered the opportunity to log in to Google Meet from home and observe and engage in class remotely if they were fearful of coming in contact with COVID, were ill, or needed to quarantine. I say this question is tricky because we had a lot of students who used this as a way to escape going to school: camera off, unresponsive, not completing work, falling asleep, using phone, and etc. But the kids who began the year that way actually did really well. I think remote learning works especially well for intrinsically motivated students, but students who NEED teachers to push, check-in on, and redirect them will benefit from in person learning.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>If funding were not an issue, I believe all schools should be 1-to-1. I am fortunate enough to teach at a school that is, and it is a game changer! When I taught at Berea, we had to sign out the lab whenever my students were to write a paper, complete any research, or work on digital tasks. Computers are such a necessity in education today, and there really shouldn't be schools without one available to each kid; it's essentially the 21st century textbook.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On a pedogologically level, I believe teachers should be open to hearing about technology from their students. I was apprehensive to download TikTok until my students were obssessed with it. It quickly became a teaching tool when me students had to create 1-minute "storytimes" to practice their personal narrative skills. On a school-wide level, training really should be centered on technology. I have sat through sooooo many PDs about assessment strategies and   lesson planning but very little about what is new and engaging in the technological education world. Schools should not be afraid to try these resources and pull in experts to assist teachers in adopting them into their classrooms.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Education is always changing, based on research-based evidence, to better the learning experiences for our students.&nbsp; Currently, education is in the middle of a transition - moving from lecture, teacher-centered learning to project-based, student-centered learning.&nbsp; I see&nbsp; future classrooms implementing PBL strategies into daily lessons and utilizing technology even more than they are now.&nbsp; With COVID this past year, many teachers, parents, and students have realized how important it is for students to be in the school building for education.&nbsp; Integrating PBL with useful technologies would not only enhance students' learning experiences, but it would also&nbsp;encourage students to take control of their learning.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Every student learns differently, so the type of learning environments for the next generation would need to be flexible to accommodate all types of learners.  After an unpredictable school year, I've noticed that my students are technologically exhausted.  I see future classrooms moving back to more "in person" learning and using less self-relying technologies.  Students are tired of the basic technologies that we relied heavily on during the pandemic.  Implementing technologies with a clear purpose that can also be incorporated in PBL-type lessons and activities that can accommodate all types of learners is a must for learning environments post-pandemic.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Unfortunately, funding is almost always an issue.  If there were unlimited funds for education, I would first make sure that every student was equipped with  a computer and/or a tablet for learning.  Personally, I am not a fan of Chromebooks, so I would be sure each student has a reliable computer/tablet that is up to date with technology.  I feel as though my students are always having issues with their Chromebooks, in addition to the district having a mixture of Google and Apple products, which can be frustrating because they don't aways play nicely together.  I would also love for all students to have access to 3D printers, coding classes, and more technological project-based learning opportunities.  With technology quickly becoming the future, giving students the ability to try using different types of technologies before they need to invest their own money into their futures would be a game changer for so many.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My students, like many others, are all about the latest and greatest technology trends.  My district offers professional development opportunities throughout the year, but many times, they are required for teachers or even worse...boring.  My district is always asking for people to present on professional development days, which just made me think: Maybe I could hold a session on teaching other teachers how to incorporate things such as TikTok (which my students are obsessed with) into their lessons.  Teachers are always looking for ways to relate to students and hold their interest...why not help other teachers keep up with our ever-changing world to help students learn in a plethora of different ways?</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The trend I am seeing and that I believe will continue to increase is the move towards student-led learning with teachers acting as facilitators. I just completed 3 days of training in the "Responsive Classroom" and the focus is on collaborative learning, various ways to group students, how to engage students, how to step back and let them do the learning, etc. It was really eye-opening! I hope to use some of the concepts starting next week in summer school. I think that students will learn best and be best prepared for their future if they are taught the skills to work collaboratively, think critically, and solve problems with others. Introducing them early and often to these skills and to different roles will prepare them for careers more than most of the actual content they are learning. One of the key ideas of the training I received was that educators need to EXPLICITLY teach skills that we sometimes assume kids already have. They don't. We have to teach, review, practice, and teach again. Students should all have access to a personal device for learning, if possible. Most students have cell phones but some might not. A Chromebook or tablet will allow students to become familiar with the technology needed to be successful. Being exposed to many applications and programs beyond the familiar Google Suite will become increasingly necessary. I wish I had been exposed to video editing sooner! It was so challenging and time-consuming but younger students would probably catch on quickly and be able to develop their skills. Practice with graphic design applications, spreadsheets and data management would also be very useful for future careers.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Classrooms are going to have increasingly porous boundaries between them and the digital/outside world. This isn't just that students will learn from doing work outside of the classroom (like an internship), but that digitally available materials (like crash course) and ecosystems (like facebook/instagram) may become major drivers of content building. Teachers may need to use more and more of their knowledge of the digital lives of their students in order to really reach out and teach/assess their students. I also believe that assessments will lean harder into skills rather than just content (wikipedia-open SATs, for example)<br>2. Access to technologies and communities that exist across the globe mean that we'll be faced with increasing difficultly around "finding the right model" sorts of school changes. We'll have to accept that certain models don't work for certain learners, and the most important piece might be supporting students in their choice of school, transitioning to a new school,&nbsp; as well as support in changing their school. As models proliferate, it will be important to make changes between models possible.&nbsp;<br>3. I feel like its not the individual pieces of tech, per se, that makes the difference-- it seems like its knowledge of how to engage in learning via these pieces of technology. I notice that students in my urban school are pretty good with cells phones but not with computers, and teachers often view cell phones as the enemy and computers as somehow more intuitive. Meeting students where they are in terms of their technological knowledge means assessing what they know and how to use/adjust to that knowledge.&nbsp;<br><br>That said, I think knowing how to use the technology to its fullest is important. Making sure that the technology is fairly open and able to do some command-line prompts is as important as the tech itself.&nbsp;<br><br>4. I've struggled with this question all year- faculty are oftentimes overwhelmed with new technology and simply try to do what they used to do offline in an online capacity. This is a problem because the environments are so different that they demand different approaches, not reasonable facsimiles. Teachers are worried because they feel like they're losing their tools and successes and starting over.&nbsp; Because of this, teachers need to be supported by being shown the possibilities of teaching in a digital space that makes sense from their experiences, particularly with a framework where the failure of a lesson is ok and accepted. In some ways, these sorts of PDs may be as important as any particular understanding of technology. In terms of technology-specific PD, I think I would push for allowing a range of PD opportunities, from a very basic "this is how excel works" all the way up to programming. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. Future classrooms will look much like they do right now. We have already integrated technology, college credit courses, career-oriented courses while managing students' schedules. Sports, band and other extracurriculars will still&nbsp; play a role and kids NEED to be present. Students emotional and social development will be more important than ever, so I don't see a need for an overwhelming online presence. I know that people *think* the classroom will drastically change, but I don't think so. I think the bulk of the change has already occurred.<br><br>2. This is a tricky question. With all the 'social' media out there, I would think that students would interact MORE. However, I am seeing the contrary. Most students (and many adults) are so engrossed in their phones that there is a social aspect missing, which I believe needs to be taught in the classroom. This will be achieved through more group learning, team approach and whole class discussion. So the best learning environment in my opinion will be the right mix of technology, group and independent learning and that will be different depending on the class.<br><br>3. This is EASY! All students should have a 2-in-1 laptop, where they will have a tablet (and pen/stylus) for math, science, art and any other class that involves working things out, drawing, etc. And the tablet will hook into a keyboard so they can email, write papers, etc. This is the future. Math cannot be done with out pen and paper, while typing papers needs to be done with a keyboard. Also 3D printers in every room!<br><br>4. I'm a big fan of professional development that is productive for the teacher in the sense that it not only teaches new/different skills, but also provides the teacher to put it to use immediately. For instance, the morning introduces some new formative assessment, the afternoon allows the teacher to create some assessments using that new tool. Or hour on/hour off, where you learn for an hour then practice for an hour. I believe front loading PD is nice to allow teachers time to get their curriculum together, but I also believe that once each quarter (minimum) teachers should be given time to regroup, take a breath, and incorporate something new.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. <strong>Where do you see our future classrooms headed?&nbsp;</strong></div><div><br></div><div>A trend that I see becoming more common, and which has come to the forefront due to COVID, is the practice of student-centered teaching. Through this practice, students have much more control over their learning while teachers, instead of being the absolute authority in the classroom, act more as guides through the learning process. I feel that the days of teachers distributing information are coming to an end; students taking an active role in their own education is incredibly beneficial and a path that should be pursued. Another path I see future classrooms following is the idea of the traditional brick-and-mortar classroom being eroded. Before the advent and increasing adoption of online and hybrid learning, there was a clear and designated learning space - the classroom. Nowadays, and in the future, learning can take place almost anywhere and at any time. I feel this shift will greatly impact the idea of education as a whole and we, as educators, need to reimagine content delivery outside the parameters of an actual room.</div><div><br><br></div><div>2. <strong>What kind of learning environment do you think the next generation would learn best?</strong></div><div><br></div><div>This can be a difficult question because people learn “best” in a variety of different ways and environments; I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all solution. Having said that, I do believe that a fantastic learning environment would be one that affords students the opportunities for hands-on and real-world learning. This, most likely, would be a hybrid model - a blend of in-person and online instruction. While certain subjects in school are more abstract than others, that doesn’t mean they need to be presented in an abstract way. It is critically important for students to be able to relate their education to real-life examples as they will be expected to apply what they know in the “real world.” An environment that also focuses on collaboration is important as well. The ability to work effectively with others is incredibly important and will be vital in our future.</div><div><strong>&nbsp;</strong></div><div>3. <strong>If funding weren’t an issue, what kind of hardware/software should all students have access to?&nbsp;</strong></div><div><br></div><div>If funding weren’t an issue, I think all students should have access to some kind of hybrid device, most likely a 2-in-1 laptop (or a dedicated laptop and separate tablet). This would give students the widest availability in terms of learning potential because there are some subjects that are just too difficult to sufficiently teach without pen and paper (or their digital counterparts). High-speed and reliable internet is also a necessity. If the hybrid model of school continues, which it undoubtedly will, then access to fast and stable internet is a must. Without it, students will be left behind. Finally, students should have access to any software that is important for education. This includes, but isn’t limited to: Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, Apple Education Apps, and more. Finally, all of these fancy bells and whistles are useless without the knowledge of how to use them. Students should be able to receive training on how to use these technologies to effectively use and learn from them.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>4. <strong>What consideration would you give to teacher training and keeping up with current trends?</strong></div><div><br></div><div>For me, teacher training and keeping up with current technology and education trends are a must. It is vital for teachers to be able to keep pace with ever-growing and -expanding technology trends; otherwise, they will be left in the dust. I think this past year was a wakeup call for everyone and showed all educators that we can’t really use ignorance of technology as an excuse when before COVID it was easy to fall back on this excuse. Of course, teachers don’t have to be experts in ALL forms of technology; what is important is their mindset. If they want to learn, they will. I think professional developments would be a great method of getting, and keeping, everyone up to speed; this way, no individual is singled out for any gaps in knowledge. These professional developments can foster a sense of community among teachers so we can continuously lift each other up for the benefit of ourselves and our students. For this to take place, however, teachers need to recognize that the “old” methods of teaching just can’t cut it anymore; we have to learn and adapt to keep up with the times. Many teachers are often overwhelmed, this past year in particular. It would not be wise to burden every individual teacher with their own technology education and practice; that is why professional developments are incredibly important as the burden of learning falls on the group and not the individual.&nbsp;</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1. Where do you see our future classroom headed?</strong><br>After reviewing Google's Future of the Classroom Website, I can see many of their predicted trends being implemented in classrooms. One area that stood out to me is collaborative classrooms. I am already seeing this trend in my building. We currently have 12 kindergarten classrooms. Next year we have added a common "learning lab" time at the end of our daily schedule to allow for more collaboration among classrooms. With this approach, students can move fluidly to different classrooms to help best meet the needs of all students. During this time students may move to different spaces to participate in intervention groups, enrichment groups, or social-emotional learning opportunities. Our building structure has also been updated to include more collaborative workspaces and garage doors between classrooms to allow for even greater collaboration. I am excited to see this trend implemented firsthand and reflect on the experience as the year progresses. <br><strong>2. What kind of learning environment do you think the next generation would learn best?</strong><br><br>Our society and students are ever-changing, and our schools need to adapt to best meet their needs. I have seen many school districts, including my own, rethinking their classroom and building layouts to provide more opportunities to create student-centered and collaborative workspaces. In the future, I think that we will continue to see these changes in districts to allow students more opportunities to lead their learning, share their thinking with peers and participate in authentic learning experiences. With these changes in structure and environment, I think we will continue to see new and innovative ways that technology is integrated into the classroom. <br><br><strong>3.If funding weren't an issue, what kind of hardware/software should all students have access to?<br><br></strong>This is a wonderful question! For my students (early elementary) I still believe iPads or tablets would be most beneficial for their age. I think that students should have 1:1 access to this device. Older students would benefit from devices such as a laptop and iPad or a 2-in-1 laptop that can convert to a tablet. In some of the older grades in my district students have access to Fab Labs with 3D Printers and scanners, laser cutters, and vinyl cutters. While I understand that Kindergarten students would not be able to operate these independently, they could still participate in the planning! <br><br><strong>4. What consideration would you give to teacher training and keeping up with current trends?<br><br></strong>In order for our teachers, students, and schools to be successful I think it is crucial that teachers are constantly reflecting on best practices and adapting to the current trends in education. However, I believe a key to this is making sure teachers are provided with ample training to feel successful. I have seen firsthand how unwilling some teachers can be to change their ways or adapt when they are simply presented with a new idea and told to implement it. Without training or instructions, most times the teacher will just revert back to old habits. By providing professional development in small sections, for example, one new tech integration, given time to implement, and then opportunities to reflect and ask questions after implementing will offer greater results than just simply handing them something new to figure out on their own. <strong><br><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>

Having the ability to work with others to learn and solve problems seems to be a trend that a lot of various work streams desire, especially through the use of technology due to the high rate of remote employees. Teaching our students to take responsibility for their own learning will come more to the front of our teaching, but it will also require them to be more responsible with technology and using a collaborative set of skills. </div>]]></description>

I believe that remote learning will become more common with students, but I hope that teachers will be allowed to have a say in if the student should change to in-person learning if the student is not excelling.          <description><![CDATA[<div>If funding weren’t an issue, what kind of hardware/software should all students have access to? •&nbsp;<br>Hardware available to students should be an aid to help them create their work, such as chromebooks and laptops. I think that presentation hardware such as large screens with HDMI hookups are also an important part of collaboration. As a physical education teacher, I want to vouch for wearable technology such as heart rate monitors and class fitbits. Non-technology specialists are often left out of the technology stream, however technology can help students grasp concepts more readily in these classes.&nbsp;<br>Software that helps students create and explore would be a wise choice as well. Even simple software like Garage Band and Microsoft Publisher can help students learn and explore new concepts. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>What consideration would you give to teacher training and keeping up with current trends?<br>Continuing education (especially with technology) seems to be more important than ever. The rise of new technologies, new software and programs, and new ways to integrate technology into the classroom needs to be kept up with as it advances.&nbsp;<br>I think having teacher's opinions on what they feel they need assistance with learning plays a crucial role in determining what professional development to introduce to teachers. I have spend many a PD session learning something that wasn't geared towards a method that I could use in my gymnasium when I could have been doing something more worthwhile to my pedagogy and student learning. Having a track for teachers to follow as well can help determine what needs to be learned and taught during PD sessions. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>classrooms of tomorrow<br>Question 1 Where do you see our future classrooms headed?<br>I personally think that this past year has given us a glimpse into the look of future classrooms. I definitely think technology will continue to be apart of the classroom setting. This makes it easier for kids to access better education and for students to have lives outside of schools in the form of sports, extracurricular activities and to have jobs. I think the biggest impact will be seen in higher education as with younger education hands on learning is more efficient for the masses. I still think there will be in person learning but I think there will also be opportunities for flipped, hybrid and full digital learning. I also think there needs to more of an emphasis on social/emotional learning as we see anxiety and depression continuing to rise.<br><br>Question 2 What kind of learning environment do you think the next generation would learn best in?<br>I think that classrooms should continue to enrich the minds of our students but to add more flexibility into learning. For example one way they could be more flexible is by offering hybrid learning or even full digital learning. I also think having spaces that are more conducive to learning is important as well. I think the classroom with traditional desks are going to be long gone. Flexible seating and various options for how to learn are going to be important for our kids. Finally, I think we need to get kids more opportunities to explore and practice real world jobs.<br><br>Question 3&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;If funding weren’t an issue, what kind of hardware/software should all students have access to?<br>I believe all kids should have access to a device and a STEAM lab. In our district's middle school they now have a STEM lab and I think we are going to see a lot of great things come from that. This gives students not only the opportunity to create and learn but to also experience teamwork and problem solving skills.<br><br>Question 4<br>What consideration would you give to teacher training and keeping up with current trends?<br>I would give the same tips to teachers in training that I was given which is to flexible and be creative. Things are always changing and it is important to be flexible to allow for those changes. I think there needs to be way more PD for technology. I feel like this year we were thrown a lot of things at once and it kinda felt like sink or swim with figuring it out on your own. I agree that technology can be wonderful but only if you know how to use it properly. I also think it is important to give teachers time to learn these platforms and to practice using them. The better we are at using them and the more training we have the more apt to using them teachers will be.</div>]]></description>
