The Dreamer suits me most of the time! As I am a melancholic person, I love to plan and organize everything properly including my works. But, without strong determination to complete the works in a timely manner, plan is just a plan. Sometimes, whenever I want to accomplish my tasks as planned, it won't go thoroughly as I wished for. There must be thing(s) that distract my concentration, such as the sluggish internet connection, adhock lectures/group assignment meeting, feeling sleepy and not to forget the hot weather. These all made me procrastinate. Nonetheless, I always try my best to complete my tasks properly before the due date and still trying to cope with all the disruptions so that they will not affect my academic performances.

Based on my reading, I think the dreamer styles reflects on me a lot because I do enjoy to plan and list anything about my work in my to-do-list. After I finished listing all my works such as quiz, assignment and the deadlines, I began to worried that I cannot do my assignment on time which I think the worrier style also suits me. But I still manage to do it. One think that I notice after do some reading about procrastination, I realize that I usually not paying too much attention to the details on my works because I find it very annoying and troublesome. My mind become very messy and fuzzy to think of those works including the details in it and then I end up to procrastinating because of that.

I am a combination of the perfectionist and the over doer. Being a perfectionist makes it more challenging to meet the goal of being perfect, or even of reaching a personal best. This is because, perfectionists will sometimes worry so much about doing something imperfectly that they become immobilized and fail to do anything at all. This happens to me every time I have my hands on the painting brushes. I either finish it well or I don't start at all! The fear of ruining my paintings always haunts me down. I am also an over doer because I always have a plate full of task and I never had the courage to say no. I was always confident that everything could be done with a proper mindset, without taking a look at the amount of time I have.

The link to Lesson 9:

I would say I am “The Worrier” and a bit of “The Perfectionist” type of procrastinator. I would organise my schedule to make my work easy but I am very cautious. I tend to overthink about the outcome of my works as I feel anxious at the thought of failure. I do what needs to be done, but I would not step out of my comfort zone. This is because if I do not accomplish the task extremely well then I would feel as a failure. For example, if I get a new assignment I will plan until everything is perfect and organised. Yet, sometimes I am reluctant to start because I do not think that I could cope with the pressure. These will make me procrastinate everytime I deal with assignments.

Based on the article on the six styles of procrastination, I think "The Dreamer" and "The Crisis-Maker" really suits my current lifestyle For the dreamer I tend to plan something before I do. For example prepare and practice something such as for assignment presentation or even performing on stage for competition. During the practice session I felt it was already perfect with my high confidence. However, on the day it happened, the outcome is not what I practiced and it was kinda disappointing. For The Crisis-Maker, I usually do some work at the last minute. For example, I do some of my assignments at the last minute. This is due to situations where there are two assignments that I need to submit in the same week, so I tend to focus on the closest to the due date. I really agree that the pressure of last minute and the adrenaline rush really help you complete your work. Therefore, now I try as best as possible to avoid doing last minute work.

I tend to be anxious about everything whenever I think of there are lots of assignments, examinations and quizzes awaits me. I plunged myself into overthinking. So, I will leave it there and refuse to face the reality. Therefore, I always start my tasks at the last minute. Besides, I find myself hard to make decisions. For example, if I was given certain choices of topics on assignments, I tend to change them frequently because of the "what ifs". I will think of what if I can't find enough information or sources for this topic before trying. These are the reasons why procrastination happens.

I tend to think that I need some pressure before starting to do something. Its like relying on those last-minute adrenaline rush can be some sort of motivation for me. I believe my procrastination type combination is one of the barrier for achieving my goals I think that the major trouble happens when this procrastinating behavior becomes a habit whereby it results in tasks or jobs that are to come to seem unpleasant or whenever I feel overwhelmed by the task.

Things get out of hand when I am disorganized too. An organized individual will plan their activities and plans to prevent being late, and they can break down the work into handy steps.

As for me, all six style of procrastination which were given really hit me on the face, because I can be the perfectionist, the dreamer, the worrier, the crisis-maker, the defier and even the overdoer. But it was exchangeable and depends on the situation I face.

For example, if I love doing that things, I will be very picky and focus on it and turn out to be the perfectionist. Like doing math, I can stay up a whole night for it. Plus, even I already get the answer with ideal way I will redo it with other ways. Thus, I will jumble up.

As for the dreamer, I always make my schedule and dreaming of doing it in real life. But, turn out it only last for a few days. I also planning on my budget and well of course, I can't face the hardship of it.

As for the worrier, in study many times I will confuse and asked myself "which subject or which chapter should I be cover? Is this? or this? lecturer said it was this chapters will be in the final. But what if, sir/madam forget to told that other chapters also in?". This keep happening all over the time.

As for the crisis-maker, yes it was the devil inside me when facing subject I feel boring or I think, "why should I learn this? I'm not going to apply it in my real life". I will put it in my last list and doing it last minute and believe in the power of adrenaline.

For the defler, I actually have high ego and I know it. I hate when people give me deadline, especially if he/she late telling me and suddenly telling me when I'm in the middle of being 'Panda'. So, don't expect me to finish it in time.

Last, as for overdoer, this of course happen during I'm in happy-phase and really confident about the things given. I will take all the responsibilities and do it on my own. But, turn out to be very stressful.

In a nutshell, all of this six style of procrastination applies on me. But, as I said before, it depends on the situation. I believe that there are others out there facing the same things as I do.

I can say that I am The Crisis-Maker since I like to do all my works at last-minute. Some people say doing your work just a day before the deadline will make it looks terrible. But for me, it only makes my work way better since I know that I have no room for mistakes due to time pressure. Almost all of my assignments I did at the very last minute and honestly it really gave me a lot of pressure. This pressure is not a negative one because it is kind of like energy for me to make things quicker and at the same time more perfect. I also can say this type of procrastination not always work all the time for all subjects. Because every subject has different difficulties. It is very risky to do tough assignments at the last minute since you know it will only bring you pain in the future. So, to overcome this situation, I try to do it early or just read something that relates with the works that I need to do.

Selfie Video:

I also planned that there will be many locals who will attend to the event. But when it comes to executing it I faced a lot of problems.

Based on the article, I can say that I tend to be the “dreamer as well as the perfectionist “type of procrastinator. I realize that since I was in high school, I tend to arrange all my schedule accordingly. However, due to another reason such as lack of motivation, sickness as well as other inevitable issues, I tend to postpone the things that I should do. Also, a lot of my plan cannot be performed well if I became disorganized. Moreover, my perfectionist side would kick in when I was doing my assignment. For example, I tend to stay too long on one assignment until I think that I’ve done my best. Which is sometimes not a good habit since a lot of pending assignments needed to be done. Sometimes I’m in the situation where I am doing my things but at the same time never finish them because somehow, I need something to push me to continue my works. Despite that, even though this procrastinating became a habit, I still can control myself and make time to finish my work.

I tend to bury my work if i think i might screw it or i have no knowledge regarding it. Consequently, it would take forever to complete that task. However my problem isnt about impressing people but i will be extremely furious with myself if the outcome doesnt meet my expectation. The solution for my behaviour is making a schedule, a timeline for due date, in making sure i complete every task in time. in addition, i would also prioritise the hardest or most complicated task first, so i would be able to consult lecturers or seek help.

Out of the 6 style of procrastination, I think I am the perfectionist with some characteristic of the worrier. I used play chess with my grandfather, father and brother since I was a 5 years old kid and I started to represent school for chess competition from primary school until secondary school. Due to that, I will think a lot before I make a single move because I know that if I make one mistake, I might ruin the whole game or lose the game. Hence, this make me tend to think a lot and scare that the result might not meet my expectation and eventually, I will refuse to think or I will think about it later. For example in a group assignment, I refuse to be a leader because I’m afraid that my teammate will be angry with me because of my perfectionism. Also when it comes to making a decision as a group leader, I found that I will think of many possibilities to avoid imperfection and difficult to make a decision.

Here is the link for Lesson 9 exercise:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1d244hDFK_FzrJC0G2JBRDyup8hw4xDy41G4dgHF4wSM/edit?usp=sharing

SELFIE VIDEO:

Procrastination is a self-sabotaging behavior that becomes the biggest hindrance between me and my goals. I am not very proud to call myself a procrastinator. The procrastination habit has impeded my productivity in daily life. The article on ‘6 types of procrastination’ by Linda Sapadin helped me to reflect on myself. After reading the article, what I have learned about myself is that I am a combination of a perfectionist and a worrier.

I have always been a perfectionist who has always been focused on the results. This has been really exhausting and leads to procrastination. I push myself to give the best in everything I do and criticise myself when things don’t go my way. Besides, I constantly worry that I’ll mess things up. There are too many ‘what ifs’ on my mind that stresses me up even before starting a work. Fear of failure and my pessimistic behavior sometimes make me avoid my work completely.

For instance, whenever I receive a new assignment, the first thought that emerges in my mind is how am I going to produce a perfect work without any mistakes. I’ll wait for the right time and solution to begin my assignment. If I’m not satisfied with my work, I will not hesitate to start from scratch. This is because imperfect work makes me anxious and I’ll be constantly worrying about not meeting the expectations. So, I’ll spend plenty of time completing each of my assignments till I feel satisfied with my work. Or there will be times where I’ll put my work on hold till I come up with a perfect idea or solution on how to complete them. This is how I procrastinate till my assignments are piled up and I end up submitting them at the eleventh hour.

Here is the link to my selfie video.

Based on the six style of procrastination by Linda Stephen, both The Dreamer and The Crisis Maker are applies to me. I always make a plan before doing any of my work to be done. However, I'm just good at planning as I can't keep up with the planned and end up doing the works at the last-minute. I habitually can do the work at the last minute as I have the pressure to finished it and try to work well on it as I already late behind. For instance, if the work is given a week earlier, I would start to make a plan to do the works as early as I can started from the the the work given. However, I started to lost track of the times as the days goes by until the day of the submission. Thus, with the pressure going on and the urgency to finish it, I just end up finish the job at the very last minute and used the time well at the last of the minute without waste any of it. I always and still try to fixed this bad habit of me on procrastinating any works assigned to me.

Selfie Video on Procrastination
https://drive.google.com/file/d/18AuCbFI8yTHItbP4QcSp1tEwQ8GHZIfq/view?usp=drivesdk

Based on the article, I see myself as “The Dreamer” and “The Overdoer”.

About being the dreamer, I am the type of person who enjoy making the ideal plan more than taking action. I’m creative, but find it hard to actually finish a task. Perhaps the dreamer in me dreams of doing assignments early and can conceptualize in the abstract what the impact could be, but when it comes to the hard work of researching for the content or articulating in lucid words, that practical stuff involving putting my ass on the grind, seems to be a stumbling block. Perhaps I wait for inspiration to strike while getting on the mundane job of researching and writing is all that is required.

As for the overdoer, I would think to do everything, especially for other people. So, I end up often procrastinating on what I need to do for myself. I tend to say “yes” too much because I’m unable to make choices and establish priorities. For instance, I’m the leader for almost all my group assignments. I have so many assignments to do and to check my group mates' work and competing demands on my time that I can actually find no time to focus on my English tasks. Therefore, I end up procrastinating.

This is the link to my selfie video:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UnDUXoHhz7KGoTL-zEOszIYeILlo4wH8/view?usp=sharing

I just don’t know how to get started with my assignment until it’s almost the due date.
ADIRAPUTRI BINTI WILSON (BP18160446) Section 9 Based on the article of six style of procrastination, I think that the best procrastination that applies to me is I am more to ‘The Worrier’. I am always felt worried especially when it comes to making a plan and decision. For example, whenever it comes to make a plan and decision I always think that, what if i failed, or what if the thing that I do is wrong. I also have a problem to stand in front of people. I always tend to be clumsy and lake of confident. Because of that, I started to procrastinate my work and when it comes to presenting assignment I always want to be the last instead of being the first. I am also always have a problem on starting on assignment. I often ask my friend and lecturer over and over again how to do the assignment instead of doing it by myself because of I am worried if I got wrong and I also need a very plenty of time to finish it due to worried feeling of getting wrong. Since I always had a worried feeling in myself, I am always searching many materials more than enough and procrastinate in finishing on my work until the deadline is around the corner.

Based on the article about “The Six Styles of Procrastination”, I think my styles of procrastination would be a combination of the dreamer and overdoer. As a dreamer, when there’s minimal work, I tend to plan well, such as making to-do lists and cleaning up my study space so I can supposedly do the work in a good environment but usually I don’t have the motivation to start the task. I like to do other things than having to actually sit down and focus the task at hand. If I do start the task, I find it hard to finish it in one sitting and tend to even procrastinate after being halfway done. As an overdoer, I hardly say no when someone asks me to do something, whether it will be running errands for the family or hanging out with my friends, I will say yes to them despite knowing there are more important things I need to do first. Consequently, when there are too many works, I feel overwhelmed and am unable to plan out the tasks I need to do since there is too much on my plate. Hence, I tend to put off the work as long as I possibly can until last minute I’m frantically trying to finish it.

Selfie Video:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ETYaIv9UCTKgGRQKt7gPQu9CseCjoGkL/view?usp=sharing

Lesson 9 Exercise:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vdHxRQaVLeW1pcguqJD00kOKsdLpdl88W2YA52p7jls/edit?usp=sharing

Out of all the 6 styles of procrastination, I would say that I am the combination of perfectionist and worrier. As a perfectionist, I always ensure that I am doing my tasks perfectly, especially for group tasks. Sometimes I end up redoing everything on my own as i am not satisfied with the results. I am very concerned about not meeting my own expectations. However, this is when I become the worrier. All of the tension causes me to be very anxious about everything I do. I would spend a lot of time thinking and making decisions as I am afraid that whatever I might do will cause failure. For example, when I am given a task that can be done within 3 days, I however would spend more than 3 days finishing it. This is because I find it hard for me to be pleased with my own work. I would change everything at the last minute and become frustrated that I started to get worried about the deadline. Sometimes I would start to do my work late because I know that I would still spend a lot of time finishing it until the deadline.

Link to Selfie Video :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l2aBF_Xi8aJW2vxsGvD9mCn81Hvlb6cb/view?usp=sharing

Link to Lesson 9 Exercise :
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iM39tY8Q8nkw3yEXFXSlN_mdLyAYoBL55abZ6YUWHmU/edit?usp=sharing

I would say that I am more to ‘The Crisis-Maker’ and ‘The perfectionist’. As a student I procrastinate quite a lot especially with assignments. This is because I tend to take due dates and deadlines for granted due to thinking that I have a lot of time on my hands. As a result, I always have to rush and go through last minute stress. As for ‘The Perfectionist’, most of the things I do have to be as perfect as I can, and I end up taking a lot of time doing a simple task which could be done fast. What I intend to do about it is to manage my time and schedule better so that I do not have to go through the adrenaline rush of completing my assignments on time.

selife video:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mH_9uxnmYiDh14CAOAR1jrCsj63Lnn8C/view?usp=sharing

I think that ‘the perfectionist’ fits my procrastination style. This is because I usually start listing out all of my assignments with a due date on when to complete it which is a good thing. However, that is not enough, usually I always want my work to be perfect which results in me being really lazy to do it when I pass the due date that I have been planning. Thus, it is always hard for me to continue doing the assignment and only resume doing it when the due date given by the lecturer is near.

From what I analyzed based on the article, I think I'm a mix of the "defier" and the "overdoer". I always expected highly of me that "it's fine, it's just another work to do, I still have time to do it." but over time, I realize that I'm not that good in managing my time with my social life, friends and family and the things I'm passionate of doing, only then I end up with piles and piles of work and it always feel like it's never enough. I hate myself for that, but it became such a habit for myself and I'm comfortable enough with it after several years. But I also like to think I'm the "perfectionist", I would always spend more time on those that I enjoy doing because I feel the need that I have to be good enough about the work I did, but it results in me neglecting the other work that I'm supposed to spend time on as well. Therefore, I can't be truly sure of which type am I, but one thing I'm sure of is that I procrastinate A LOT.

Lesson 9 exercises:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/18LNiRKckyuEURMuVyCmlVeAjNN6bQZQXEgkbEbsTHbM/edit?usp=sharing

I am saying I fit as the dreamer because I spend most of my time organizing things I will do next, in my head. I rarely write it down except if it is something I might forget but when it come to the time the task must be done, I will get frustated besides panic on how should I start. Result in, I will delay the task with a common reason which is "I still do not have the spirit to do it". Here I can relate why I am also the crisis-maker. I will get all the task done at the same time, last minute. I enjoy the last-minute work because of the relief feeling after i get it done. Yes, I suppose to feel the same feeling if I do it earlier but I guess, back to the first procrastination style, I am also the dreamer.

Based on the six styles of procrastination, I think that both "The Worrier" and "The Crisis-Maker" suits me well. I enjoy doing work in peace without being disturbed cause I get easily distracted. Therefore, I often worry about everything that might get in the way at the time I'm trying to finish my work especially now that I'm at home. I need to finish all the house chores and wait after lunch to do my work. I need to focus when suddenly I am being called to help doing the house chores or lunch time when doing work. It makes me left my work and only come back hours later. It makes me lose the excitement to do my work and resulting to procrastination. Thus, it then leads me to be "The Crisis-Maker". I am a person that prefer completing my tasks at one time that I prefer doing my work last-minute at midnight or just when I am alone so that I will get a distraction-free surroundings. I will need to wait for everyone to sleep or going out and just then I will get to finish my work peacefully without being disturbed.

Based on the six styles of procrastination, I think i am a mix between "The Dreamer" and "The Crisis-Maker". I would plan out the whole week of what I should do and need to finish like assignments and etc. Most of the time I just ignore my initial plan and just delay my work till the last minute and with adrenaline of last minute work I would finish my work few hours before deadline and when I finally finished them the feeling of relive doesn't long as new assignment are given and the cycle repeats itself.

When it comes to procrastination I would consider myself a seasoned expert. I need not think of past experiences to remember the last time i procrastinate as this work I'm doing right now is a result of procrastination. Among the 6 styles of procrastination, the ones that mostly relates to me is "The Worrier" as well as "The Crisis-Maker". An example of me being "The Crisis-Maker" is my course assignments for Web Technology. Because an assignment that was given to as a few months ago that i procrastinated and have completely forgotten about was done at the very last possible minute which was done and driven out of fear of failing to submit in time and fail the course. An example of me being "The Worrier" would be most of my difficult assignments i would put off because of how difficult it is and me also being "The Crisis-Maker" would let future me worry about those kinds of assignments.

It always feel so nice to imagine to do so much work, to do them properly and with passionate, but it's easier to imagine than to actually do it. This is because i feel i am mostly able to come up with a plan of what to do, when to do it and schedule it but then most of the time i wont carry it through because i just couldn't find the spirit for me to do the works that i planned. For example, when i am doing my project assignments i know what i have to do and where to find information but every time when i wake up in the morning and realise i have to do the works and realise how much work and time i would need to spend i just push it off to another date.

It gave me an opportunity to do the other works that I loved. Then when the due date becomes nearly end, automatically my brain would react so well even under pressure because I really enjoy myself doing it. So, the assignments given would be finished before the due date ends. Sometimes, I think that I have to change my behaviour because it could lead to missing out on the assignments.

I usually planned my work by distributing my assignments in one week, but I'll often ignore my schedule because I'm too lazy and inconsistent with my time. Another reason is I'll get more motivated if there was any last minute work even though I hate it. And for the last reason is I'll often make too many work for myself and set too many plans until I couldn't even keep up with my first work. But thanks to the passage about 6 types of procrastination, I can now manage my time more properly.

Based on the six styles of procrastination, I realized that I am a mix of the dreamer and the perfectionist. As a dreamer, I would say that I’m very good at planning and I do to-do-lists everyday. Even if I don't write it down, I will plan everything in my mind. It’s just that I get distracted easily and I don't have enough motivation to push myself to do the work. The comfortable environment in my house (snacks, bed and television series) makes me escape from reality. As for the perfectionist, I want all my work to be perfect which gives me satisfaction in it. But sometimes it wouldn't be perfect as I wanted especially in things like group assignment, baking and also cooking. I know that it’s okay to be not perfect. It triggers me sometimes saying that I can't be perfect in things which I like too.

As for crisis-maker, I always do an assignment for the last-minute because I think I could work under stress, and surely to do last-minute works is not good at all, but for me it can take a pressure on me to complete my work especially assignment on time even I am making it last-minute

Which of the six styles of procrastination applies to you?

Between all the six styles of procrastination given, the perfectionist and the crisis-maker are the most suitable procrastination to describe me when doing my works. This is because, in doing my works I can be very picky and want the outcome to be as perfect as it can otherwise, I will feel not satisfied at all. Doing my works with a perfectionist attitude is the most satisfied thing I can do as it felt like a reward for me after my struggle finishing my works and the outcome is outstanding. This style not only apply for my works, but also in my group assignment especially because we do not know how the others doing their works or assignment. So, to ensure that our group assignment is totally in a perfect condition I will volunteer myself to check their works and the final draft of the assignment before the submission.

I cannot deny that this kind of situation or procrastination sometime do affects my emotion and mood. This is because, I can be too focus on doing something until I stress up to achieve my own expectation because of my perfectionist attitude. Besides, I also can be furious or mad especially for the group assignment if my members did not doing their works right as I always want them to do their works perfectly that can meet my expectation as their teammate. This kind of attitude started to get attached with me when I keep on thinking to get a better mark as I always tell myself that a perfect works can lead to a perfect score. As a university student, perfectionist is a good attitude as we need to meet many people expectation, especially the lecturers. Not only that, to build a good career you also need to be perfectionist so people will be impressed with all the work you are doing.

But, at the same time I can be a risk taker which mean the crisis-maker. Even though I am a perfectionist in my works, but at the same time I tend to put myself under a lot of pressure. Why? Because I enjoying the adrenaline working under a pressure. For example, I always started my works late instead of doing it in the early stage as my idea tend to come faster if doing my works in the last minute. Furthermore, doing my works under a pressure sometime can help me to focus more on finishing it as fast as I can but with my perfectionist attitude it is not a good combination. This is because, I always skip my meals and sleep time to make sure that my works is perfects and the outcome is satisfying even though doing it last minute. This situation quite worrying as I keep experiencing migraine and can affects my health too as I do not have enough sleep and rest due to these two procrastination in me.

In a nutshell, the perfectionist and the crisis-maker are the most suitable attitude that can describe me. I admit that, I do try my best to change the ways of me doing my works but I started to be more comfortable with these two even though the crisis-maker can be classified into a negative attitude, in the mean time I believe that there are some people that can really deal and carry these attitude with them just like me. Different people have a different thought in this, all the procrastination that exists in this world is depend on how you deal and control them not you being control with them.
