Modern sport equals Commercial sport which exists to make money. How sports make money is by sponsorship, advertising, TV involvement, specters and business. All of these characteristics are before sport was commercialized. The leisure time was effected as there was more people who had increased leisure which meant more time for sports. Also affluent society was effect the sport as more people had more people had more disposable income as wages was increased. Urbanization was also a factor as more people were moving from the country to the city so that they could get jobs which meant they had more disposable income. Market economy is where the buying and selling of athletes. Communication was a key factor as newspapers started to report on the success of sports. The industrialization was also a key part as their was a factor act that was put in place which meant wages went up, working hours was restricted which meant more time off and this lead to the 3 pm kick off time on a Saturday afternoon. 
The characteristics during the commercialization of sport are entertainment spectator sport, display, globalization, business, commercial package. The entertainment spectator sport is were the media has had an increase of influence with the sports. Display has effected the sport as the performance of the players has increase which increase the spectators enjoyment of the sport. Globalization means that sports have gone world wide which means more players being evolved and more players transferring from club to club. It is primarily used to attract new customers and used to associate brands with successful "things". The aim is to create and reinforce brand images.  sponsorship = advertisement = endorsement. Endorsement is the support of an individual or group gives to a company or product. This allows the money that is regenerated can be put into improving the facilities, higher wages, better invest of players which means clubs can develop to become successful due to the investments.  
Sponsors can have positives and negatives for the clubs, fans, p[layers and managers. An example of a sponsor that has positives and negatives is McDonald's sponsoring the Rio 2016 Olympics because it promotes unhealthy eating which effects the fans however it is a popular company so therefore it is more recognizable. Another is Jessica Ennis-Hill who promotes Adidas clothing has positives and negatives which are that it inspires young girls to take part within sport as she is a successful athlete also it increase recognition of her success. However, there is a negative which is it can make girls feel that they should have to look like her and that they have to be that skinny but you may also say it can promote healthy body image. ]]> 2018-12-17 10:05:45 UTC https://padlet.com/705548/xg08p7csgfku/wish/315093871 705548 https://padlet.com/705548/xg08p7csgfku/wish/315853179 Due to commercialisation Manchester city had invested £200 Million to structure the future for the City Football Academy.  This meant that the money would be spent on 16 outdoor pitches, an indoor facility that is both longer and higher than the one at St Georges park.  Two thirds of the site is dedicated to youth development so that future managers and players have easy access to three pitches and a specialised half-pitch which is designed for goalkeepers. each of the pitches have different surfaces - Desso pitch, Route-Zone, and a more heavliy sanded Grass-master so in theory City could tailor their training for away games to match their opponents pitch. Also there is a secluded pitch which surrounded by buildings which allows players to work on set peices without the effects of the wind. 
Within the first team headquarters, the first floor, there are 3 gyms - strength and conditioning, pilates and technical skills. A hypoxic chamber of treadmills which allow players to run at altitude or extreme temperatures and rooms dedicated to cryotherapy and ultra sound treatment. Also there is a hydro therapy area, there are six separate pieces with water designed to treat injuries including a cold plunge pool at a temperature of four degrees and hot pool at 36 degrees to treat injuries. City even have a hydro therapy treadmill with under water cameras to monitor a player movement. 
The second floor includes the players lounge, refectory and 56 seat auditorium where they can review clips from training due to a weather-proof cart that films from pitch side.

Also they have had massive success with the Women's side as within their first season of in the Super League they won the continental cup against Arsenal in 2015 and was runners up in the league. Also the following year 2016 they did the double which was the league title and the Continental cup and ended the season unbeaten. Then the following season they continued their success with another title win and the FA cup trophy.
