         <description><![CDATA[<div>In response to the violence at Fort Scott, a Peace convention was held. Afterward, many laws favoring pro-slavery and against anti-slavery were passed. Non-residents of Kansas could vote in the practice of popular sovereignty, which would consist of many pro-slavery travelers.</div>]]></description>

         <title>May 24th 1856: Pottawatomie Creek Massacre</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>John Brown sought revenge after the Sack of Lawrence</li><li>Brown was furious due to the fact that the people of Lawrence had chosen not to fight</li><li>Brown was not a pacifist leader and fought to send a message. He told his followers after the sack of Lawrence that they must “Fight fire with fire” and that the pro-slavery activists will be fearing them </li><li>Three days after the Lawrence affair (May 24), Brown and 7 other people set out at night for vengeance.</li><li>They were armed with different types of weapons like guns, knives, etc.</li><li>Pottawatomie Creek, a pro-slavery town, was where Brown and his men attacked</li><li>Brown’s group caught innocent civilians and hacked at their heads with weapons, even murdering two sons of a pro-slavery activist</li><li>Sack of Lawrence was on May 21st while the massacre was on the 24th </li></ul><div><br><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>- </strong>Charles Sumner was a abolitionist with pride also was the leader of the Republican Party<br><strong>-</strong> Sumner declared Butler was a stupid and idiotice person at one of his speeches<br><strong>-</strong> During the time people had to protect their family name and after Sumner making fun of Butler his cousin Brooks to matters into his own hands<br><strong>-</strong> Brooks walked into senate chambers and striked Sumner over the head multiple times with hid gold ended cane<br><strong>-</strong> Brooks was charged with a $300 dollar fine for assault and he returned to South Carolina and there he was praised and reelected because of his actions<br><strong>-</strong> But Sumner on the other hand could not participate in the senate for a couple of years from his injuries</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>May 21st: The Sack Of Lawrence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- The pro slavery forces attacked anti slavery members<br>- Republicans were introducing bills to make Kansas a free state, and Democrats were introducing bills to make Kansas a slave state<br>- Republicans were strongly expressing their views on slavery in newspapers, persuading others that slavery is evil<br>- This led to the attacks on Lawrence with two newspaper offices being destroyed, with the printing presses thrown into nearby rivers    - Homes and shops of anti-slavery members were burned and looted<br>- The final act of the raid was a cannonshot towards the free state hotel which smashed it into pieces<br>- The event shook the country, but with all of the conflict neither party could get enough of a support over the other</div>]]></description>
